How to Play:
 At least 4 students will volunteer to spin the wheel.
 Each profession has clues about its useful objects, and there will also be picture clues on the board.
 The student who can guess correctly will receive ribbon.

C. Presentation the area of a circle.
of the
Lesson The teacher will explain the following:

(Teacher may involve the learners by reading and giving some ideas and examples during the discussion.)

Suppose:

The area of a parallelogram is A = bh. So, as for the circle, which is made into a
parallelogram, the length of the base corresponds to πr and the height is r.
Therefore, the formula in finding the area of a circle is A=πr2.

Area of a circle is the number of square units inside that circle. It can be determined easily using a formula,
A = πr2 (Pi r-squared) where “r” is the radius of the circle. The unit of area is the square unit, such as m2,
cm2, etc.

RULES IN DOING THE ACTIVITY

 Talk responsibly
 Engage actively while staying on task
 Always listen to your group leader and stay silent when doing the activity.
 Manage time and cooperate with your group

(Before the teacher will discuss the terms used in the formula of a circle, each group will first guess the given
circle. The learners will guess and match either it represents a diameter, radius, or pi. The groups will be
given 2 minutes only to do the activity.)

Terms used in the formula of a circle:

 Diameter- the distance across a circle through its center

 Radius- It is the half of the diameter of a circle.

 Π Pi- is a Greek letter pronounced as "pi" which is constant and approximately

equal to 3.14 .

Example No. 1: The radius of a circle is 3 meters. What is the area of the circle?
Solution:
A = πx r x r
A = 3.14 x (3 m) x (3 m)
A = 3.14 x (9 m2)
A = 28.26 m2

Example No. 2: (This will be answered by a random student. The radius of a circle is 6 meters. What is the
area of the circle?

Given: r= 6 cm
Solution:
A=πxrxr
A = 3.14 x (6 m) x 6 m
A = 113.04 m2

Example No. 3: The diameter of a circle is 8 meters. What is the area of a circle?
Given: d=8 m
Solution:
R= d ÷ 2 A=πxrxr
R= 8 m÷ 2 A = 3.14 x (4 m) x 4 m
R= 4 m A = 50. 24 m2

Example No. 4: (This will be answered by a random student.

The diameter of a circle is 10 dm. What is the area of the given circle?

Solution:
R=d ÷ 2 A=π x r2
R=10 dm÷ 2 A= 3.14 X (5 dm) x 2
R=5 dm A= 113. 04 dm2

Hence, the smallest possible area of the circular glass that is needed to cover the top of the table is
113.04 dm2 .
(The learners will sing The Pi Song.)

That’s the value of pi.

(Before doing another activity, the teacher will ask again the learners about the team rules.)
D. Enrichment
Activity (The learners will go to their respective group. After completing the activity, each group will choose at least
one representative to present their output to the class.)

GROUP 1: Locate the diameter and the radius of the given circle. Please also write the value of π.

GROUP 2: The radius of a circle is 7 centimeters. What is the area of a given circle.

7 cm

GROUP 3: Math Challenge

V. VALUES Remember:
INTEGRATION "Life is a circle" means that life has ups and downs, and things often come back around. I
symbolizes continuous journey of experiences as finding the area of a circle relates to understanding
the space we occupy in life. Learning how to find the area of a circle is just like understanding the
space we create in life- growth, impact, and opportunities. Just like finding the area of a circle, life
also requires understanding, growth, and balance.”
