Operations with Integers

-6 x (-24)
Operations with
Integers Sort
Includes:
• 16 Answer Cards for students to sort matching answers under.
• 5 matching Problem Cards for each of the 16 Answer Cards (80 total
Problem Cards).

Instructions for Use:

• Give each student or group 2-4 Answer Cards along with their matching
Problem Cards. For example, one student could have five problems with
the answer n = 34, five problems with the answer n = -45, five problems
with the answer n = 15, and five problems with the answer n = -55.
• I recommend giving each student one noun set and the rest adjectives!
The answer key is on the following page.
• Cards are organized so that each Answer Card has five matching Problem
Cards. You can give students the sets as shown in the answer key or mix
and match! Mixing and matching is part of the fun and makes them
reusable!
• Have students spread out cards with the problem sides facing up and
letter sides facing down.
• Students must find the answers to the cards and divide them into groups
underneath their matching Answer Card. For example, if they get an
answer of n = 34, then that card is sorted underneath the Answer Card
that says n = 34.
• Once sorted, students flip over the cards and try to unscramble the letters
in each group to form a fun word.
• Once all the words are unscrambled they can put them together to form
their fun phrase!

*Tip: If your students just learned how to do these problems and the
problems take a little longer, you may want to give each group fewer sorts.
For example, you could just give them the 5 cards with an answer of n = -16
and 5 cards with an answer of n = 8 to form “chewy worms” instead of all 4
shown in Group Four on the Answer Key.

Instructions for Printing:
• Print back to back on cardstock. Problem cards and letter cards
alternate through the document. For example, page 6 prints on
the back of page 5, page 8 prints on the back of page 7, etc. Cut on
the lines, laminate (if desired), and the cards are ready for use!

Answer Key:
• If printed according to the instructions above, the following
words will be created for each solution.

Group One
• n = 34: train
• n = -45: black
• n = 15: quick
• n = -55: quiet

Group Two
• n = 44: panda
• n = -24: itchy
• n = 84: dizzy
• n = -64: wacky

Group Three
• n = 20: pizza
• n = -54: fruit
• n = 36: soggy
• n = -46: bland

Group Four
• n = 8: worms
• n = -16: chewy
• n = 54: spicy
• n = -63: soupy
