What is the flow rate of the fluid?
2) Calculate the pressure of water in a tanker at h=0.5m from the ground if the depth of the water is 2m.

3) Water stands 12 m deep in a storage tank whose top is open to the atmosphere. What is the absolute

4) The weight of crown in air and in water is read 7.84 N and 6.84 N respectively. What is the density
of crown? Assume the density of water is 1.00×103 kg/m3
5) The small piston of a hydraulic lift has a radius of 0.25m. A car weighing 2 x 104 N sits on a rack
mounted on a large piston and lifts a weight of 6 x 104 N. Calculate the approximate area of the
large piston.
6) The small piston of a hydraulic lift has an area of 0.20 𝑚2. A car weighing 1.2 × 104𝑁 sits on a rack
mounted on a large piston. The large piston has an area of 0.90 𝑚2. How much force must be applied
to the small piston to support the car?
7) A circular steel wire 2m long must stretch no more than 0.25 cm when a tensile force of 400 N is
applied to each end of the wire. What minimum diameter is required for the wire? (Young's modulus

8) You are given a metal sample and asked to determine its specific heat. You weigh the sample and
find that its weight is 29.4 N. You carefully add 104 J of heat energy to the sample and find that its
temperature raises 20 oc. What is the sample’s specific heat? (g=9.8m/s)
9) What is the linear expansion coefficient if a metal rod expands by 0.12% m when its temperature
increases by 50℃, and its original length is 14 m?
10) A 0.05 kg sample of copper is at 25 °C. If 1200 J of energy is added to it by heat, what is the
approximate final temperature of the copper in ℃? [Use specific heat capacity of water 385
J/kg.℃?]
11) 55 g of hot water is poured in 125 g of cold water, when temperature of cold water rises by 10°C. If
the temperature of hot water is 85°C, calculate the initial temperature of cold water? (specific heat of
water=4.2J/g.°C)
12) Calculate the heat energy required to melt 10 g of copper at its melting point. (Use specific latent
heat of fusion for copper Lf = 209 000 J/kg).
13) A 1.2 kg of aluminum pan on a stove is used to heat 0.4 L of water from 27 ℃ to 85 ℃. What
percentage of the heat is used to raise the pan's temperature? (Hint: Mass of 1 L of water is equal to
1 kg of water, around 4℃). Use the specific heat capacity of aluminum and water
c_Al=900 J/kg.℃ and c_w=4184 J/kg.℃ respectively.
14) Calculate the heat energy released to cool 0.1kg of aluminum from 2,470°C (boiling point of Al) of
aluminum gas to solid aluminum at 660.3°C (melting point of Al) at standard pressure. (Use Specific
heat capacity of aluminum gas: cgas=910 J/kg·°C, Specific heat capacity of liquid aluminum:
cliquid=900 J/kg·°C and Latent heat of vaporization of aluminum: Lv=10.79×106 J/kg.
15) How much heat energy is required to turn 40g ice from -10°C to water at 20°C? (Specific heat of
ice= 2.09 J/g °C , specific heat of ice= 4.2 J/g °C latent heat of fusion= 334 J/g.)
16) A gas is confined to a vertical cylinder by a piston of mass 2 kg and radius 0.01 m. When 5J of heat
is added, the piston rises by 0.024 m. Find the work done by the gas. [Use: Atmospheric pressure is
105Pa and g= 9.81 m/s2].
17) A system absorbs 35J of heat and in the process it does 11J of work. If the initial internal energy is
