SYNOPSIS
Nowadays people like extroverts love to travel a lot to their desired destinations. Not only
nationally but, internationally too people love to travel their favorite places. Long before the
internet became the cornerstone of modern commerce and communication, the process of
planning a travel excursion was much more complicated and opaquer. It was a difficult task and
replete with physical documents. Only the most intrepid adventure seeker could make all their
own arrangements.
Travel agents were the lynchpin of the travel experience. Possessed of an encyclopedic
knowledge of destinations, airlines, lodging providers, and tour operators, these middlemen
pulled together the disconnected threads necessary to weave a perfect vacation. Agents survived
on the commissions paid by lodging providers. Therefore, the physical documents in which the
whole data was stored, was difficult to handle and had them being stored in the large spacious
rooms. Hence, made the handlers difficult to search a particular document or a record that took
lots of time.
Limitations of existing system:
➢ Time consuming
➢ Human error is liable
➢ Difficulty faced at the time of organising the whole data
➢ The records has to be recorded in the notebook
➢ Notebooks can be altered by any suspicious person at any time leading to some frauds
Proposed System:
The proposed system is replaced with the existing system toll with its disadvantages removed
along with the improved performance. The proposed system is designed such that it will
determine proper solution for the problems in the existing system. The proposed system is a
complete client-server architecture where the system is divided in the two panels one is user
panel and another is admin panel.
In the user panel, the user can select their desired travel packages and further enquire it. This
system makes it easy for the admin in the admin panel to maintain and administer all the details
about the travel features like category or type of a tour, package price, advertisements of the
beautiful destinations, etc. The admin can add, delete,
update, or view the users, categories, packages, advertisements, etc. The database is used to store
all the details of the user and about the other related data where the activities like adding the user
data, deleting the user data, viewing the user data, and update the user data.
Features of the proposed system:
➢ All the user details are recorded in the database easily. The records can be easily
managed by the admin.
➢ The proposed system don’t need any huge human power to manage the system.
➢ The reports can be easily searched using the proposed system.
➢ The environment in the system is secured by which the entire information related to the
users is stored securely.
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The project titled as ‘Travel Management System’ is an online application project developed
using PHP and MySQL as well as other web programming languages. The main purpose of this
project is to provide the complete information about the package of any type of tour. There are 2
different types of users – admin and user. First the customer/user visits the site and enters the
place from where to where he wishes to travel. He also provides the date as when he would like
to travel. Then he sends these details to the travel and tourism agency. The employee of travel
and tourism agency receives the mail and check which tour is available for that day and reverts
back to the customer along with the quotation. If the customer agrees for any one of the
quotation, he can reply back along with agreed quotation. Then the agency will take down all the
details of the customer and will send a confirmation message to the customer. This software is
user friendly and helps in finding the type of tour sooner rather than wandering manually
everywhere to find for the tours and travels packages. Before the tour starts, half payment has to
be done. After the customer returns or reaches his final destination, he must pay full amount
either through cash or through cards. After the travelling the customer can come back to the site
and enter his feedback about the travel and tourism agency. If any good feedback is received,
then it will be taken positively and if any negative feedback is received then that will also be
taken positively and can be used to improve the system further or for the future requirements of
the users in which the system lacked to fulfil the requirements of the users. The report is also
generated periodically and the database will be cleared according to the time span for faster
performance.
The system that was built earlier was slow and inefficient and led to data entry errors and delays
in processing travel reimbursements for IU faculty, staff. The new system will speed up
processing time and provide more accurate data.
This system will be rolled out in stages. Currently, work is being completed on the back
office portion of the applications, which facilitates processing of requests and reimbursements
and provides key integration points with travel vendors.
1.1 Modules:
User module:
Admin module:
Benefits:
➢ Faster processing time and more accurate data for travel requests and reimbursements.
➢ Ability for travelers to track authorization and reimbursement request status through the
system rather than via phone calls or campus mail.
➢ Major technological upgrades to the current travel system.
➢ Use of IU is standardized.
➢ Many new features and enhancements.
CHAPTER 2
SYSTEM REQUIREMENT AND SPECIFICATION
To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or the
other software resources to be present on a computer. These pre-requisites are known as
computer or system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute
rule. Most software defines two sets of system requirements: minimum and recommended. With
increasing demand for higher processing power and resources in newer versions of software,
system requirements tend to increase over time.
application. These requirements or pre-requisites are generally not included in the software
installation package and need to be installed separately before the software is installed.

CHAPTER-3
SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION
XAMPP is a popular cross-platform web server that allows programmers to write and
test their code on a local webserver. It was created by Apache Friends, and the public
can revise or modify its native source code. It includes MariaDB, Apache HTTP
Server, and interpreters for PHP and Perl, among other computer languages. Because
of XAMPP’s simplicity of deployment, a developer can quickly and easily install a
WAMP or LAMP stack on an operating system, with the added benefit that common
add-in apps like WordPress and Joomla can also be loaded.
basically used for developing web-based software applications. This tutorial helps you
to build your base with PHP.
PHP started out as a small open-source project that evolved as more and more people
found out how useful it was. Rasmus Lerdorf unleashed the first version of PHP way
back in 1994.
PHP is a MUST for students and working professionals to become a great Software
Engineer especially when they are working in Web Development Domain. I will list
down some of the key advantages of learning PHP:
PHP is a recursive acronym for "PHP: Hypertext pre-processor".
Characteristics of PHP:
Important characteristics make PHP's practical nature possible −
• Simplicity
• Efficiency
• Security
• Flexibility
Applications of PHP:
As mentioned before, PHP is one of the most widely used language over the web. I'm
goingto list few of them here:
▪ PHP performs system functions, i.e. from files on a system it can create, open,
read,write, and close them.
▪ PHP can handle forms, i.e. gather data from files, save data to a file, through email
youcan send data, return data to the user.
▪ You add, delete and modify elements within your database through PHP.
▪ Access cookies variables and set cookies.
▪ Using PHP, you can restrict users to access some pages of your website.
▪ It can encrypt data.
3.3 MySQL:
MYSQL the most popular open-source SQL database management system, is
developed, distributed, and supported by Oracle Corporation.
on the desktop or laptop, alongside your other applications, web servers and so on,
requiring little or no attention. If you dedicate an entire machine to MYSQL. MYSQL
can also scale up to clusters of machines, networked together.
Features of MYSQL:
Because of its unique storage engine architecture MYSQL performance is very high.
Supports large number of embedded applications which makes MYSQL very flexible.
Use of triggers, stored procedures and views which allows the developer to give a
higherproductivity
Allows transactions to be rolled back, commit and crash recovery.
My SQLi:
✓ MySQLi is an extension to MySQL API available in PHP and is introduced from PHP
5.0 onwards. It is also known as MySQL improved extension. Motivation behind
MySQLi was to take advantage of new features available.
✓ MySQL provides an object-oriented interface. It provides both object oriented and
procedural approach to handle database operations.
✓ MySQLi supports prepared statements.
✓ MySQLi supports multiple statements.
✓ MySQLi supports transactions.
✓ MySQLi provides enhanced debugging capabilities.
CHAPTER 4
SYSTEM DESIGN
4.1 Data Flow Diagram (DFD)
Data flow diagram is a graphical representation of data movement, process files used in
support of an information system. Unlike detail flow charts, DFDs do not supply detailed
description of modules but graphically describe a system’s data and how the data interact with
the system. Workflow focuses on what happens to the data through various points in the system.
A data flow diagram represents the information at each processing points in the system and the
direction it takes from the source and destination
An arrow identifies data flow or data in motion. Circle stands for a process that converts
data into information. An open-ended box represents a data source or a temporary repository of
data. A square defines a source or the destination of given data
The following information rules govern construction of DFD
a) Arrows should not cross each other
b) Squares, circles, and files must bear names

CHAPTER-5
TESTING
5.1 Introduction:
Testing is the process of executing a program with the aim of finding errors. To make
our software perform well it should be error-free. If testing is done successfully, it will remove
all the errors from the software.
1. Unit Testing:
It focuses on the smallest unit of software design. In this, we test an individual unit or
group of interrelated units. It is often done by the programmer by using sample input and
observing its corresponding outputs.
2. Integration Testing:
The objective is to take unit tested components and build a program structure that has
been dictated by design. Integration testing is testing in which a group of components is
combined to produce output.
3. Regression Testing:
Every time a new module is added leads to changes in the program. This type of testing
makes sure that the whole component works properly even after adding components to the
complete program.
4. Smoke Testing:
This test is done to make sure that software under testing is ready or stable for further
testing. It is called a smoke test as the testing an initial pass is done to check if it did not catch
the fire or smoke in the initial switch on.
5. Alpha Testing:
This is a type of validation testing. It is a type of acceptance testong which is done
before the product is released to customers. It is typically done by QA people.
6. Beta Testing:
The beta test is conducted at one or more customer sites by the end-user of the
software. This version is released for a limited number of users for testing in a real-time
environment.
7. System Testing:
This software is tested such that it works fine for the different operating systems. It is
covered under the black box testing technique. In this, we just focus on the required input and
output without focusing on internal working. In this, we have security testing, recovery testing,
stress testing, and performance testing.
8. Stress Testing:
In this, we give unfavorable conditions to the system and check how they perform in
those conditions.
9. Performance Testing:
It is designed to test the run-time performance of software within the context of an
integrated system. It is used to test the speed and effectiveness of the program. It is also called
load testing. In it we check, what is the performance of the system in the given load.
• Testing of Requirements,
• Design and Analysis of Testing,
• Testing of Code,
• Integration testing,
• System testing,
• User Testing.
