Introduction

A business is defined as an organization or entrepreneurial entity engaged in business, industrial or

professional activities. Business Intelligence Definition Business Intelligence (BI) develops software and
services that transform data into dynamic intelligence that communicates a company's strategic and strategic
business decisions.
Business intelligence can help companies make better decisions by displaying current and historical data on
their business environment. Analysts use BIs to provide performance and competitive definitions to keep a
company running smoothly and efficiently.BI include several part of that. Therefore here the report tell
about some of them.

In this statement, different models related to business processes, procedures and processes will be evaluated.
This statement makes us will understand several terms or concepts such as data capture and input, data
conversion, security considerations, semi and unstructured data.
Apart from these, different systems of technologies will be compared with the business intelligence system.
Different application software and database systems will be explored. Several business processes like sales,
marketing and purchasing operation, Supporting problem-solving and decision making system, technical
support functions, Forecasting as well as predictive reasoning would be analyzed.

Part – 01
Create a report about the business process and supporting process with the suitable examples.

Business process
A business process is a set of tasks that end up delivering a service or product to a customer. A business
process is also defined as a set of functions and tasks that, once completed, will achieve an organizational
goal.
(Appian, 2020)
The importance of business processes

The need and benefits of a business process are

evident in large companies. A process that creates
the lifeblood of any business and helps streamline
personal operations, ensuring that resources are
brought to optimal use.

Key reasons to have well-defined business

processes
 Identify what tasks are important for big
business goals.
Figure 1: Business process
 Performance Improvement Communication
regulation between people or activities or departments.
 Set up approvals to ensure accountability and optimal use of resources.
 Standardize a few procedures to complete tasks that are
very important to the business.
(Kissflow Inc, June 11, 2020)

Business process can be defined in three categories:

1. Operational Process
2. Supporting Process
3. Management Process

Figure 2: Business process categories

HNC/HND Computing 11
1. Operational Process

An operational process is an organized set of functions or tasks that make up a particular service or product.
For examples are: medical assessment process, drug approval process, financial process. Agent billing, trip
booking, leave management process, business travel management process. (Rouse, September 2018)

Figure 3: Operational process

2. Supporting Process

Supporting processes or secondary processes: Processes that support key processes and functions within an
organization.

Figure 4: Supports provided in the supporting process

HNC/HND Computing 12
Examples of ancillary or management processes include accounting, human resource management, and
workplace security. An important difference between operational and support processes is that support
processes do not provide value directly to customers.

Support processes do not directly create products or services, but are necessary to assist or assist in the
implementation of operating or management processes. Examples of processes that support operating
processes include supply procurement, inventory filling and machine maintenance.
(Rouse, September 2018)

3. Management Process

In the management process, all the work that comes under management matters is implemented. Building
management, interior and exterior management, staff management, payroll management, etc.

All these things are handled under this process of business process.
It is the basic understanding of the management process to achieve
certain goals related to a business, proper planning is done, then the
plan is implemented and the process is guided and controlled. Senior
executives are involved in this process.
(Rouse, September 2018)

Figure 5: Business Process Management

Business process management

Business process management is a strategy that companies use to ensure that their business processes run
smoothly. This may contribute to process improvement by assisting management review, and can control
organizational processes to ensure they are efficient and effective.

Companies use BPM software to monitor and control automated and non-automated business processes and
to improve their management processes.

Business process management activities include steps like business process modeling, execution,
monitoring and optimization.
(Rouse, September 2018)

HNC/HND Computing 13
Business process monitoring

Business process monitoring is a method of using analytics to monitor the performance of a process.
Process tracking is used to detect factors such as process cycle time, errors and cost.

Companies use performance monitoring to evaluate the operational performance of an activity. Technical
monitoring helps to measure the technical performance of an application, overseeing and recording aspects
such as response time and idle time.
(Rouse, September 2018)

Business process visibility

Business process visibility provides a holistic view of each process of organizations, enhances operational
response and speeds up decision making. Helps management teams determine if their processes are aligned
with key business objectives and objectives, and to determine whether the procedures that help make a
process successful work accurately.

Business process monitoring can also help improve business process visibility by helping to identify
possible problems. (Rouse, September 2018)

Business process modeling or mapping

Business processes are often visually depicted with a flow chart showing a sequence of tasks with certain
definitions or end points.

Business process mapping or modeling illustrates through graphs and diagrams how some processes flow to
others. (Rouse, September 2018)

There are some different ways to think about business process mapping and workflow.

 Sequential business process: Sequential business processes are outlined in a document with clear
starting and ending points. Following this process diagram, a company performs a series of actions
to complete a task within the constraints of a predetermined timeline.

 Status-driven business process: Status-driven business process does not have rigorous starting and
ending points. These processes can be completed at any stage depending on workflow changes, the
nature of the product, or office culture.

HNC/HND Computing 14
 Parallel business process: When the functions of a business process are executed in parallel, they are
carried out simultaneously. In this type of business process, operations must be completed at all
branches before the next phase of the business process begins.

(Rouse, September 2018)

Part – 02
Differentiate the three types of data (structured, semi-structured or unstructured data) with examples.

Types of data (structured, semi-structured or unstructured data)

When we talk about data or analysis, the terms structured, unstructured and semi-structured data are often
discussed. These are three types of data that are now suitable for all types of business applications.
Structured data has been around for some time, and traditional systems and reporting still rely on this type
of data. However, there has been a rapid increase in the generation of semi-structured and unstructured data
sources over the past few years. With the addition of all three types of data, many more businesses now tend
to take their analytics to the next level. (Naeem, May 18th, 2020)

Figure 6: Type of data

HNC/HND Computing 15
Structured Data

Structured data is information that is transformed into a well-defined and well-defined data model. Source
data can be converted to pre-formatted fields and then extracted and easily read by SQL. SQL-related
databases with tables with rows and columns are a perfect example of structured data.

It uses the corresponding sample memory of the configured data because it reduces data redundancy.
However, it also indicates that the structured data are highly interdependent and have low flexibility.
Structured data is generated by humans and machines.

There are numerous examples of structured data generated by machines such as POS data such as size,
barcodes and blog stats. Similarly, anyone working on data would have used spreadsheets once in their
lifetime, which is the classic case of man-made structured data. Due to the structure of structured data, it is
easier to analyze than semi-structured and non-structured data.
(Naeem, May 18th, 2020)

Semi-Structured Data

Data may or may not be configured - there is another type between these two that is somewhat configured.
Such data is defined as semi-structured.
This type of data has certain static and definite properties that do not limit it to a rigid structure required for
related databases. Organizational properties such as metadata or semantic tags are used to further manage it
with semi-structured data, however, it still has some variations and inconsistencies.

Example of semi-configured data Separated files. It contains elements that can break down data into
separate sequences. In some cases, unconfirmed data is classified as semi-configured because it has one or
more classifying properties.
(Naeem, May 18th, 2020)

Unstructured Data

Data that is in complete raw form is called unstructured. This data is difficult to process due to its complex
organization and design. Unstructured data can take many forms, including social media posts, chats,

HNC/HND Computing 16
satellite images, IoT sensor data, emails and presentations. Unstructured data is quality, not quantity, so it is
often characterized and characterized by nature.

For example, data from social media or websites can be used to detect future buying trends or to determine
the effectiveness of a marketing campaign. In addition, unconfirmed data can help detect fraudulent emails
and chat formats, which can be useful for companies to monitor policy compliance.
(Naeem, May 18th, 2020)

Figure 7: Differentiate between structured, unstructured and semi-structured data

Differentiate between unstructured and semi-structured data within an organization

We will differentiate between these three types of data structures using analogies. Assume that there are three
types of job interviews: unstructured, semi-structured and structured.

In an unstructured interview, the questions asked are entirely the choice of the interviewer. He can determine
the questions he wants to ask and the order in which they will be asked.

Another type is a structured interview. In this case, the interviewer will strictly follow the script developed
by the HR department and the same script will be used for all the applicants.

The third type is semi-structured. In this case, the interview will combine elements of unstructured and
structured interviews. It includes elements of a size and consistency similar to a structured interview.

HNC/HND Computing 17
However, at the same time, it also has the flexibility to customize questions to suit the situation, which is a
feature of the unstructured interview.

If we examine this analogy, we can see that structured data is less flexible, more organized, and stored in a
defined format. At the same time, unconfirmed data is too complex and often provides quality information
that cannot be matched with a pre-defined data model. Semi-structured data, on the other hand, include the
characteristics of both types.

Historically, businesses have focused only on extracting and analyzing information from structured data.
However, with the development of semi-structured and unstructured data, businesses now need to look
towards a solution that allows them to analyze all three types of data.

Institutional quality tools such as the Astra Center Price may help. Center Price has built -in support for
configured, semi-configured and unconfirmed data formats. The tool allows you to quickly capture data
trapped in a different system, verify its quality, modify it to meet business needs, and export it to the data
analysis layer. As a result, you can convert input data from your database, documents, emails, PDFs and
various other formats into standard business publications, which can then be used to make important business
decisions.

In summarize, businesses need to analyze all three types of data and make more use of the information they
have to advance beyond their competition.
