Writing Task 1 Homework

The line graph illustrates the amount of spreads consumed from 1981 to
2007, in grams.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features
and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The presented line graph illustrates changes in the intake of three categories of spreads like margarine,
low fat and reduced spreads and butter in grams over 26 years between 1981 to 2007.

Overall, while the consumption of butter and margarine decreased over the period, low fat and reduced
spreads consumption increased and became the most preferred spread by the end of the period.

Initially, butter was consumed at a higher quantity than other spreads at approximately 142 grams in
1981 and after reaching a peak of nearly 160 grams, it fell dramatically to about 50 grams by 2007.
Similarly, the consumption of margarine also dropped from nearly 90 grams in 1981 to 40 grams by 2007
after remaining constant at 100 grams between 1991 to 1996.

In contrary, the consumption of low fat and reduced spreads was accounted from the year 1996 at
around 10 grams. However, its usage went up and reached close to 70 grams in 2007 after peaking at
over 80 grams in 2001.
Practice in Class

The provided line graph illustrates the average marriage age of men and woman in England and Wales,
during over forty years period, from 1961 to 2000.

Overall, it can be seen that the average age of marriage for both males and females in UK and Wales
increased between 1961 and 2000. The trend illustrates that females who got married in younger age
than males, over the period.

In 1961 the age at which men generally married was twenty-six, but in 1971, there was a fluctuation
reaching nearly around twenty-four and the figure then levelled off gradually, finishing at around thirty-
one in 2000.

Women usually married at the age around twenty-four in 1961, and then there was a slight dip to
twenty- three in 1971, but this went up gradually levelled off at just over twenty-five years age until
2000. The biggest rise of the average age of marriage for both men and women was between 1981 and
2000.
