Project1 Jan2504

The document outlines a step-by-step process for creating a 3D model of a box and its lid using CAD software. It includes instructions for creating geometrical sets, extruding surfaces, applying fillets, and joining surfaces to form a solid part. The final steps involve creating cutouts in the lid and solidifying the model.

Build the sketch as shown using formula to tie the length and width constraints to the

center of the part.

Create a geometrical set and name it Box. Now create an extruded surface along the Z
axis 4 inches downward (away from the sketch).
Add 1.5 inch rads to the corners using edge fillet (edge fillets for joined corners shape for
corners where two edges meet)

Hide the sketch.

Build a fill surface on the bottom face of the part.

Now that you have a bottom surface use the shape fillet command to put a ½ inch fillet
on the parts bottom edge.(watch for arrow direction to create the proper corner.
Now that the fillet is created we will go on to create the profile for or sweep surface.
Select the sketch icon and go into the sketch mode using the YZ plane.

Using the mouse or the rotate icon bring the part into an isometric view as shown
below.
Select the Insert Pulldown and access the Operation, 3D Geometry, Intersect 3D
Elements command. This will allow you to pick the side surface of the part and create a
edge with which to build the sweep surface profile.

(select the datum icon so it is orange before starting)

Pick on this icon once you have the intersect line. This will rotate the view back
onto the sketch plane.

Now build a profile as shown below.

Before leaving the sketch tool delete the intersect line. Once you’ve hit the icon

rotate the part into an iso view and select the Sweep Command.
At this time select the sketch as the profile and Create a Join (on the right click of the
guide box) using the curves at the top of your walls.

The Surface selection option will be addressed by right clicking in the box and using the
XY plane option.

Selecting the ok should produce the results as shown below.

The next step will group the BOX surfaces into a join. The join Icon is selected and
the designer will pick Fillet.1 and Sweep.1 as shown below. Upon hitting ok Join.1 is
created.
In the next step will create radius for the upper flange to remove the sharpness of the part.
Select the edge fillet option as shown and perform the radiusing of the edges.

There will be three edges to do. The software will recognize the continuous nature of the
edges and swing the fillet around the entire edge in one swing.

The result will look like this for a .100 in radius.

The next step will create the wall stock of the Box. Use the Surface Offset command and
give the box a .100 offset. Be sure the arrow is pointing out of the box and hit the OK.

For Clarity right click and change the graphic properties of the Offset.1 to purple and
do the same for the Edgefillet.1 selecting Blue or something other than the offsets color.
Now use the join command and build the surfaces to close in the part edge as shown
below.

The Lid

1- Create a new geometrical set and rename it to LID.

2- Build the lid by first creating a sketch off of the profile of the box upper edge.
3- The Second step will be to create an extrude off of the sketch at .1 inch tall.

4- The third step will be using the fill command to fill in the top and bottom surfaces
of the lid.

5- The next step will have the operator filleting the bottom edge of the lid extrude.
6- Now go to sketch mode and create a sketch that will be the cutouts in the lid
surface (as shown)

7- Now the designer will create a solid of both parts by joining the surfaces and then
use the Close Solid command to solidify the parts.
8- File the part.
