S1 Mock Test - Geometry

0.1 Part A: Basics

Question 1. There are three points A, B and C. They form a triangle ∆ABC.
It is given that D is a point on BC produced. It is given that ∠BAC = 50◦ and
∠ACD = 70◦ . Find
(a) Find ∠ACB
(b) Use (a) or otherwise, find ∠ABC (4 marks)
Question 2. In an obtuse triangle ∆ABC, it is given that ∠ACB is an
obtuse angle. D is a point on BC produced such that AD⊥BD. E is a point on
AC produced such that AE ⊥ BE.
(a) If given that ∠ABC = x◦ ;
(i) Find ∠ACD in terms of x
(ii) Find ∠BCE in terms of x
(iii) Find ∠CBE in terms of x (6 marks)
(b) If it is given that BC=CA;
(i) Use (a) or otherwise, proof that ∆ACD ∼
= ∆BCE
(ii) By (b)(i) or otherwise, proof that BD=AE. (4 marks)
(c) The Pythagorean theorem is given: If there is a triangle ABC such that
∠ABC is a right angle, then AB2 + BC2 = AC2 . Use the results of (b)(ii)
only, without using congruency, to prove that AD=BE. (2 marks)
Question 3. It is given that AB//CD and FJ//EH, EH and FI intersect
at G. It is given that ∠EFG = 30◦ and ∠HFJ = 20◦ .
(a) Find ∠FGH (3 marks)
(b) DC produced meet FJ at K;
(i) Prove that ∠HEF = ∠FJH
(ii) Use (i) or otherwise, prove that ∆EFH ∼
= ∆FJH (6 marks)
(c) Now regardless of the angle previously given, and let I be a moving point.
(i) Someone claims that ∠EHF = ∠FHJ. Do you agree?
(ii) If it is given that the sum of interior angles of the same side of limes
IF, FH and DH is less than 180◦ , Describe the geometric relationship
between point I and line AB. (8 marks)

0.2 Part B. Normal Questions

Question 4. C is a pint lying on DE. AE and BC intersect at F. It is given that
AC=AD and BC=DE, and ∠BCE = ∠ CAD . Prove that ∆ABC ∼ = ∆ADE. (3
marks)

0.3 Part C. Challenging Questions

Question 5 Refer to figure 1. It is given that D is a point on BC such that
AD⊥BC. P is a point on BC such point D and P do not overlap.

(a) By using Pythagorean theorem, prove that AD < AP

(b) By using (a), prove that AD is the minimum distance between A and BC
(c) If BA⊥AC, AB = 3, AC = 4, find the length of AD.

(d) Refer to figure 2.ABCP2 is a quadrilateral. P1 is on BC while P2 is on

DE. Both P1 , P2 are moving points. Describe the geometric relations of
P1 , P2 such that AP1 is the minimal. (7 marks)
