Assignment 2: Group Assignment
2025
This assignment is a group assignment. You need to work on your assignment with a fellow
student. Each of you needs to complete specific roles and responsibilities to complete the
whole assignment.
1. The Roles
Each group member is expected to contribute to the academic content of the assignment.
Each member will take responsibility for one section of the assignment, which is divided into
two sections.
Section 1 (The Group Leader and Quality Officer)
Section 2 (Technical, Communication and Social Skills Officer)
In addition to this, there are other tasks that need to be completed to ensure the smooth
functioning of the group and the successful completion of the assignment. These additional
tasks have been divided into various roles. You may decide amongst yourselves who will
perform each role. The roles, as well as each role’s responsibilities, are given below.
Group Leader and Quality Officer
• Ensure that the group does adequate planning (who does what by when?) and reflection
and also ensure that the assignment is submitted on time.
• Ensure that the group members fulfil their roles effectively.
• Ensure effective conflict management and the promotion of a conflict-free environment.
• Ensure that the assignment is logically organised and ask critical questions to ensure
the members remain focused on the outcomes of the assignment.
• Ensure regular updates of the reference list, references and correct in-text references
as well as ensuring that no plagiarism occurs and that good and relevant sources are
used (not older than 10 years) and that the sources are correctly referenced.
• Quality and creative contribution to the assignment.
• Visible communication and interaction with the other group member.
Technical, Communication and Social Skills Officer
• Check that the group adheres to the proposed planning (who does what by when?) and
due dates.
• Encourage and enable regular, constructive communication.
• Ensure that all aspects of the assignment are addressed and deal accordingly with any
problems.
• Ensure that all group members are comfortable with the technology and that they
communicate regularly (content related as well as group dynamics).
• Ensure that the layout is done according to the planned structure (headings, etc.).
• Ensure that basic proofreading and document editing has been done, and that
appropriate language is used (spelling and grammar).
• Visible communication and interaction with the other group member.
2. General requirements for the assignment
The following general requirements apply to all the assignments:
1. Structure your assignment logically, using appropriate headings and subheadings.
2. Avoid long and complicated sentences and paragraphs.
3. Express your ideas and arguments clearly and in full sentences.
4. Present your work in a typed document, in 1½-line spacing, 11 or 12 point font (e.g.,
Arial 11 or Times Roman 12).
5. Follow the NWU Referencing Guide (NWU Harvard) and list only those references you
actually referred to in a Reference list at the end of your assignment.
6. In addition to the indicated study material, you are expected to use at least four further
recent references (such as academic journal articles).
7. The assignment should be no longer than 4 pages (including the Reference list).
3. The Assignment
The Constitution spells out fundamental values to be achieved in society. This is elaborated
in Study Unit 5.
Section 1 (Group Leader and Quality officer)
1.1 Name and define ten values of the South African Constitution.
1.2 Describe how you will integrate these Constitutional values in your future class/subject
area in a practical way.
Section 2 (Technical, Communication and Social Skills Person)
2.1 Take the ten values of the South African Constitution that were used in Section 1.
Develop guidelines on how these could be used by teachers in schools to enhance
education values in our current times.
4. Assessment of the Assignment
Content Evaluation
The assignment will be assessed for its academic content with the rubric in 4.1. This will be a
mark out of 100.
Role Evaluation
Each group member will also be assessed for the fulfilment of the role that has been assigned
to them. This will form part of Assignment 3.
