NMC (The nursing and midwifery council)

The NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) is a regulatory body in the United
Kingdom
that ensures nurses, midwives, and nursing associates are qualified and meet the
required standards to practice safely and effectively. It is responsible for setting and
maintaining standards for education, training, and professional conduct, and it
plays a key
role in safeguarding patient safety in the healthcare system.

Process

1.Eligibility check: meet qualifications recognized by (NMC)


2.English language proficiency:
The nurses must demonstrate proficiency in English through tests like (OET) (IELTS)
to ensure
smooth communication.
3. NMC Registration
Nurses must apply to the NMC (Nursing and midwifery council) to be registered be-
fore they
can practice.
4.Visa application (Tier 2)
After registration in NMC, the nurses need to apply for a visa (Tier 2) to legally work
in the UK.
A COS certificate is required to apply for a visa.
5.Criminal record check
A criminal record check from the nurse’s home country or any country she lived in for
more
than a year. To make sure that they don't have any.

6. Health and fitness requirements
Nurses must meet health requirements. As a result, medical certificates have to be submitted,
if they have been residing in a different country.
7.Recruitment and employment
After obtaining the visa and NMC registrations, nurses can begin their employment in the
country.
(Includes assistance, accommodation etc.)

The Test of Competence consists of two parts:


A multiple-choice computer-based test known as the CBT.
A practical test known as the OSCE.

NMC CBT EXAM


THE NMC CBT (computer-based Test) is the first part of the Test of Competence required for
internationally trained nurses and midwives to register with the Nursing and Midway council
(NMC)

Purpose
Assess theoretical nursing knowledge.
Ensures candidates meet UK nursing standards before practicing

1.Mode: online, multiple choices
2.A duration of 3 Hours
3.Total of 115 multiple choices question
4.Nursing theory and practices
5.Candidates must score at least 68% overall to pass.

OET EXAM

The Occupational English Test (OET) is an English language proficiency exam de-

language relevant to their profession.

1.Listening (45 Minutes)

Marking and Passing


Criteria

Many healthcare regulators require a minimum score of 350 (Grade B) in each


station.
OET is scored on a scale of 0-500 for each section.
