POINT OF CARE TESTING (POCT)


Documented Procedure: Periodic Assessment of Point of Care Testing (POCT)
1. Purpose: This procedure outlines the process for conducting periodic assessments of POCT to
ensure the quality, accuracy, and reliability of testing results, and to maintain the competency of
personnel performing POCT.
2. Scope: This procedure applies to all POCT procedures performed within QUEZON
PROVINCIAL NETWORK HOSPITAL - CANDELARIA and to all personnel involved in
POCT.
3. Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing and implementing the periodic assessment plan, ensuring
adherence to this procedure, and maintaining documentation.
 POCT Personnel:
Responsible for participating in the assessment process, documenting results, and
addressing any identified issues.
4. Procedure:
 4.1 Assessment Frequency:
Conduct periodic assessments at least semi-annually, or as per regulatory requirements.
 4.2 Assessment Methods:
 4.2.1 Direct Observation: Observe POCT personnel performing routine tests,
including patient preparation (if applicable), specimen handling, processing, and
testing.
 4.2.2 Review of Records: Review quality control records, proficiency testing
results, and any other relevant documentation.
 4.2.3 Competency Assessment: Evaluate competency through written quizzes, case
studies, or practical exercises.
 4.2.4 Blind Testing: Conduct blind testing with unknown samples to assess test
performance.
 4.2.5 External Proficiency Testing: Participate in external proficiency testing
programs as required.
 4.3 Assessment Tools:
 4.3.1 Checklists: Use checklists to document observations and assess compliance
with procedures.
 4.3.2 Competency Assessment Forms: Use forms to document competency
