ClassVII EdifyPr

The document outlines the number system for Class VIII mathematics, defining natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, real numbers, rational numbers, and irrational numbers. It specifies that natural numbers are used for counting, whole numbers include zero, and integers encompass both positive and negative whole numbers. Additionally, it explains that rational numbers can be expressed as fractions while irrational numbers cannot be represented in such a form.

Number System
NATURAL NUMBERS ARE NUMBERS USED FOR COUNTING, THAT IS 2

1,2,3,4,5,6,...
WHETHER 0 BELONGS TO NATURAL NUMBERS IS OFTEN A MATTER OF CONVENTION.
WE WILL REFER TO WHOLE NUMBERS TO INDICATE THAT THE ZERO SHOULD BE
INCLUDED:
0,1,2,3,4,5,6,...
THE SET OF NATURAL NUMBERS IS OFTEN DENOTED BY N:
N={1,2,3,4,5,6,...}.
THE SET OF WHOLE NUMBERS IS OFTEN DENOTED BY W:
W={0,1,2,3,4,5,6,...}.

INTEGERS(Z) ARE THE NATURAL NUMBERS, INCLUDING ZERO, AND THEIR 3

NEGATIVES:
... -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
REAL NUMBERS (R) ARE ANY VALUE ON THE CONTINUOUS LINE.
–FOR EXAMPLE: 0.31, -4, Π, 2-3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3
IR (RATIONAL) NUMBERS 4

RATIONAL NUMBERS (Q)ARE REAL NUMBERS WHICH CAN BE REPRESENTED

IN THE FORM A/B, WHERE A AND B ARE INTEGERS.
–FOR EXAMPLE: 3/7, 0.999 = 999/1000, ...

IRRATIONAL NUMBERS (I)ARE REAL NUMBERS WHICH CAN NOT BE

REPRESENTED IN THE FORM A/B FOR ANY INTEGERS A & B.
–FOR EXAMPLE: Π, E, 21/2
