UNIT 7: ARE THEY TEACHERS?


PERIOD 3
I. Objectives
- To recognize the upper- and lower-case forms of the letters T and U, associate them with
the sounds
- To follow the left-to-right sequence of English
- To develop listening skills by listening to a short story
- To revise and consolidate language introduced in the unit 7

II. Procedure (90 minutes)

Teacher’s activities

Warm-up - Greeting

(5ms) - Play Jump to revise the phonics sounds

Phonics Pre-teach:
- Have students watch a video:

- Ask what letters are in the video
Teach:

• Trace the letters with your finger. Children trace the letters T with their
fingers in their books.

• Listen and point to the words turtle and towel.

• Children listen to the letter U sound. Point to the letter U with the children.

• Trace the letters with your finger. Children trace the letters with their
fingers in their books (pause the track while they trace, if necessary).

• Listen and point to the words umbrella and up with the children.

• Play the second part of the recording (Listen and repeat) and have children

repeat in chorus.

Practice
Listen and chant
• Point to the turtle and the towel and say a turtle... a towel. Do the same
with letter U. Children repeat in chorus.
• Play the recording for children to listen to the chant.
• Play the chant again. Hold up phonics cards when you hear the word.
• Play the chant again, pausing for children to repeat.
• Play the chant all the way through for children to repeat
Stick and say
Guided Activities
• Give phonics cards to four children. Then divide the class into two groups.
• Give group one verse 1 and group two verse 2.
• Play the chant again. Each group sings their own verse.
• The children hold up the correct phonics card when they hear the words.
Break time (5ms)

Pre-teach

- Ask Ss to look at the pictures and identify characters in the story.


- Ask “What can you see in the picture?”
Teach:

- Let Ss listen to the story.


- Play the recording again and pause at each line for Ss to point at each
frame and repeat.
- Play the recording again if needed.
Story
- Act out the story:
(40ms)
+ Divide the Ss in groups of 3.
+ Assign each role for Ss.
+ Guide Ss to act out the story.

+ Let them practice 1-2 more minutes.


+ call some groups to perform in front of the class.

Post teach:

- Ask Ss if they like the story.


- Revise the structure “Are they…?”
Wrap-up - Revise the vocabulary and the structures
