Freebase Nicotine or Nicotine Salts?


The vape device you have will determine the type of nicotine you need to
purchase. Tobacco is naturally occurring and derived from tobacco leaves.
With a slight chemical modification, the positive charge of the ions in the
structure of the nicotine leaves is removed therefore resulting in freebase.
Freebase nicotine is the purest form of nicotine and has been an additive
to cigarette products since the 1960’s.

Nicotine salts are a recent game changer in the world of vaping. Once
again derived from the naturally occurring tobacco leaves this time
benzoic acid is added to the chemical makeup to produce the salt
component. This serves two key purposes in salt nicotine. It helps nicotine
salt vaporise at lower temperatures as well as lowering the pH levels in
the salt nicotine which results in a smoother throat hit.

Handy hints and tips:


• Always keep nicotine out of reach of children
• It is advisable to store nicotine in a zip-lock bag inside a screw top
container in the freezer when not being used
• Wear gloves when handling nicotine
• E-juices greater than 30mls should be decanted into smaller 30ml
bottles to avoid mis calculation

The process:
• Ensure you have a clean stable work surface
• Prepare your equipment. Pipet or syringe with blunt needle, e-juice
to have nicotine added to and empty e-juice bottles (if decanting to
smaller volumes)
• Don gloves (advisable) and get your unflavoured nicotine out of the
freezer.
• Remove lids from nicotine bottle and e-juice bottle.
• Draw up desired amount of nicotine in mls and add to appropriate e-
juice volume.
• Replace all unicorn tips and lids
• Return unflavoured nicotine to its storage container and return to
freezer.
• Remove gloves and shake newly nicotine added e-juice vigorously

Handy hints:
• Ensure you shake your nicotine added e-juice well if it has been left
standing for long periods of time prior to filling tanks to avoid any
separation of nicotine in the e-juice
• Blunt needles will fit down most unicorn tips if adding directly to a
ready to vape e-juice bottle
• Butter knives and pliers can assist in removing unicorn tips (see
YouTube videos for more tips)
• It is normal for e-juice to turn a slight amber colour when nicotine
has been added after a period of time.

Remember it is a lot easier to add more nicotine to an e-juice than it is to


remove it! Start less and add more if necessary.
