Data validation is used to reduce chance of errors when a


person enters data into the computer system

1. Open MS Access.

2. Open the database called School Clubs from the folder Practical Task 7 – Final Term in your Z-drive.

3. Open the table Middle School Clubs from the list of tables on the left side (double click).

4. You can see a database with some fields.

5. Open the design view.

6. Add these new fields at the end of the table:

Club date Date/Time Medium Date

Fee paid Yes/No

7. Which field is unique in the database? Write the name of the field below:

8. Set the Primary key on this unique field.

How to make a validation rule?

1. Select the field you would like to put the rule on.

2. Scroll down to general properties of this field

3. Set the validation rule and validation text.

9. In the design view, set the validation rules according to following instructions
Field Validation rule Validation text

Student Initials Is not null Please enter initials from A to Z

Grade Between 5 and 8 Grade must be between 5 and 8

Club date >=date() You cannot choose a date of the past

Outdoor/Indoor Outdoor or indoor Please enter either outdoor or indoor

10. Now Open the table in Datasheet View.

11. Enter the following record. Every time an error comes, take its screenshot and past in evidence file.
