1. TITLE

Concrete Works

2. SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 General Description

This method statement describes the practices and methods to be used


with regards to placing, curing and defect rectification of concrete works &
blinding concrete.

2.2 Plant and Equipment

2.3 Materials
2.3.1 List of materials:
 Concrete – 8,000 psi, 4,000 psi

2.4 Site Planning and Preparation


2.4.1 Daily Preparation
a. Always check and verify the actual site condition prior to activities.

b. Verify manpower, status and condition of materials tools & equipment necessary
during execution.
c. Check with representative from Main Contractor, all materials for use are in
compliance with the approved specifications and the activities are guided by approved
method statement.

d. Check all workers daily before reporting to site and inspect wearing complete
Personal Protective Equipment.

e. Approved construction, shop drawings and materials must always be reviewed


and readily available before commencing any activities.

f. Prepare daily work permit, Daily Safety Task Instruction (DSTI) sheet and conduct
daily Tool Box Meeting with the workers in order to prevent an unwanted incident.

g. Coordinate the daily work activities as indicated in the method statement.

h. Coordinate with the associated parties if there are any concerns related to the
work location.

i. Check daily all the tools and equipment to be use on working to prevent any
unwanted accidents during implementation.

j. Every work place must ensure proper housekeeping before leaving the activity
area, all tools are on proper place and secure the materials from deterioration or damaged.

k. Implement the ZERO ACCIDENT PROGRAM protocol every time on site.

l. Due to the work shall be held at the Construction Area, scheduling as well as the
time of start and finish shall be dictated by the Contractor.

m. All workers shall have preapproval and permits to enter to the Construction Area.
The passes should be worn at all times and/or readily available to present whenever demanded by
proper authorities.

n. All incoming materials at the site location shall be screened and should follow the
procedures provided before mobilizing.

o. Supervision must be present at all times in the place of work while commencing
any activity.

2.4.2 Coordination of Works

a. Approved construction and shop drawings to be checked and coordinated with


Structural Engineer before work commence.

b. Before commencement of any work activity, coordinate with the contractor for daily
work permit approval.

c. Check and verify all activities if there shall be implications to associated parties.
Inform immediately the person in charge through a formal letter informing the activities required to be
undertaken.

d. Request for Information must be submitted to the Contractor for coordinating with
other Contract Package Contractors and also to clarify and discrepancies from pan to actual site
condition, solve issues and proper information support.
e. Inform immediately the Contractor for work coordination to the other
Subcontractors for proper execution of the activities.

f. Ensure that all activities are in compliance with the Contractor’s HSE Policy.

2.4.3 Permit Requirements


a. Work permits shall be obtained prior to any activities being carried-out and
work shall commence in accordance indicated to the work permit submitted.
b. Follow the time schedule provided by the Main Contractor to work on the
Construction Area.
c. Safety Inspector will check and advised the Site Engineer to ensure the
activities indicated on the work permit will be done with respect to safety of all personnel,
workers and property.
d. Permit that may apply are as follow:
 Permit to Work in Construction Area
 Disposal Permit
 Hot Work Permit
 Materials Delivery Permit
 Access / Entry Permit
 Gate Passes to Construction Area
2.4.4 Communication on Site
a. Mobile phones and internet line will be provided in the site office. Site
Engineers, Site Supervisors, Safety Officers and other site personnel shall be provided
with mobile phones as necessary.

2.4.5 Work Process Flowchart

2.5 Work Methodology


The sequence for Scope of Work is as follow:
 Design Calculation
 Construction Drawings Preparation
 Inspection of Delivered Materials
 Concrete Placement
 Concrete Curing
 Testing & Inspection
 As-Built Drawings Preparation
2.5.1 Design Calculation
a. Design Calculation of Adequate sizes and dimensions of the structures to be
poured with concrete shall be provided by the Consultant. The calculation shall be based
on the given Project Specification.
b. Design Calculation shall be submitted for Contractor’s & Engineer’s approval.
Upon approval, Construction Drawings shall commence.

2.5.2 Construction Drawings Preparation


a. Construction Drawings shall be based on the design calculations.
b. Review shall be necessary considering the comments, notes and instructions
of the Contractor and Engineer.
c. Approved Construction Drawings will be multiplied and shall be supplied to
Site Engineer and construction team for execution.

2.5.3 Inspection of Delivered Materials


The Site Engineer shall be responsible for:
a. Checking total quantities and types with purchase order.
b. Inviting the Contractor Engineer/s for inspection before transfer or use of main
materials for accessories to working areas.
c. Check quality of delivered materials.
d. Prepare a report and mention if there are incomplete or damaged items and
keep such materials separately to invite responsible.

2.5.4 Concrete Placement


a. Concrete is to be placed as close as possible to its final position and not
moved laterally by vibration. Concrete is not to be over vibrated.
b. Concrete is not to be dropped from a height exceeding 2m.
c. “Cold joints” of more than 40 minutes shall be avoided. Concrete shall be
placed not later than one hour after the addition of the mixing water. Pumping of
concrete shall only be permitted after approval from Company.
d. If during concreting rain is imminent sufficient plastic/canvas sheets should be
on hand to cover the entire casting area. If seepage water is coming into the excavation
in a significant volume or again if rain is imminent a water pump must be in place ready
to operate.
2.5.5 Concrete Curing.

a. After the initial set of the concrete and when the concrete is hard enough to not
be damaged by such an action, the exposed concrete surface shall be covered
with drenched hessian sacks. These sacks shall be left in position and
maintained in a soaked condition for seven days.
b. For formed surfaces the curing shall be applied as described above after the
formwork has been removed, or a curing compound shall be applied.
c. Laitance may be removed once the concrete is hard by light chipping wire
brushing.
d. Preparation of Construction joints shall be done by mechanical chipping taking
care not to dislodge the coarse aggregates. This is to be done at least 24 hours
after the completion of placing or a concrete surface retarder may be used.

2.5.6 Inspection

a. Inspection Request Form shall be furnished and submitted by the


Subcontractor 24 hours before the Contractor’s actual inspection of Steel
Reinforcement.
b. Contractor’s QA/QC to invite the Engineer for witnessing the inspection.
c. After the removal of formwork, the element shall be checked for level,
dimensions and surface defects, any non-conformity will be brought to the
attention of Company before rectification.
d. The action to be taken to resolve any non-conformity will be proposed by
main contractor and subsequently approved by consultant.
e. Any patching, grouting or other such compound to be used for rectification
works shall be submitted to and approved by consultant prior to its use.
f. Curing compounds if used shall be approved and of the clear type.

2.5.7 Follow-up and Evaluation


a. Evaluate the work finished from time to time and investigate all the parameters
affecting the project during execution.
b. Gather records and data. Study which areas or what specific activity needs
improvements.
g. Conduct regular surveillance on the progress of works. Strict conformity to
quality and compliance to HSE policies must always apply.

2.6 Organization, Responsibility & Supervision


2.6.1 Project Interfacing Organization
2.6.3 Contractor Responsibilities

a. Project Director
i. Responsible in overall run and progress of the entire project.
ii. Responsible and controls accounting, general affairs and report the
progress of work to the Contractor.
iii. The one responsible on project planning and scheduling. Also, he
will be responsible on all administrative matters including establishing
project organization.
iv. Checks and controls all the documents such as shop drawings,
construction schedules, progress billing statements, submittals, etc.
v. Assigns the Design Manager to overlook overseas logistics, design
and conceptualization and solving issues with regards to materials and shop
drawings.
vi. Assigns the General Manager to establish policies with regards to
personnel recruitment, promote Safety and Health, to check the quality of
works and all administrative matters.
vii. Checks the works of all his staff to provide the necessary work and
accomplishment needed.
viii. The Project Director is ultimately responsible for HS&E Policy
Performance and must champion zero accidents at all staff meetings and in
the field.

b. General Manager
i. Responsible on assisting the Project Director for controlling the work
of the project.
ii. Responsible on project planning and project scheduling. Also he will
be responsible on all administrative matters including establishing project
organization.
iii. Responsible on safety matters and related issues. Also,
responsible in orienting and reminding all his staff safety before reporting
to site and also aware on actual site condition.
c. Project Manager
i. Responsible on checking all shop drawings before submission to the
Contractor. Also responsible in coordinating to the Contractor for the
associated work schedule and activities.
ii. Checks all QA/QC matters and informing the Project Director for
awareness.
iii. Responsible on studying all cost variance and Scope of Works.
iv. Coordinating all Shop Drawings to Contractor for approval before
turnover to Project Engineer.
v. Responsible on all design related activities.
vi. Responsible on checking the material availability to the procurement
department.
vii. Ensuring the field personnel are working to the latest available
information.

d. Site Engineer
i. Assists the Project Director and Design Manager in executing the
activities. Responsible on overlooking the activities on the project and
preparing work progress.
ii. Ensures all activities for implementation is as per approved
drawings. Checks the Method Statement procedures are properly executed.
iii. Responsible on all work safety during execution.
iv. Conducts daily toolbox meeting at site to all workers prior the start
of activities.
v. Coordinate the activities to other trade contractor before
implementing at the site.

e. Design Engineer
i. Responsible on all drawings submittals, as-built plans and updating
all changes occurs during implementation.
ii. Coordinate from time to time to the Contractor’s Design Department
for any changes on the plans.
