Manor Life Project
The Assignment:
This assignment is designed to allow you to learn about life on a manor with a hands-on approach.
The first part of the project requires you to create a booklet or poster of information about life on the
manor. You must explain how society was structured, the rights and responsibilities of the different
social classes, the legal system used on the manor as well as the role of religion on the manor.
The second part of the project requires you to create a model or physical representation of a manor or an
element found on a manor. If you do a model of the entire manor, you should reference page 48. You
may also want to just create a model of specific structures/items. Be creative and use whatever materials
you want (Lego, Minecraft, popsicle sticks).
This project is designed to be done in groups (preferably four). Each member of the group will take on a
different role in society (King/Queen, Lord/Lady, Knight, Serf/Freeman) and complete their tasks through
this viewpoint. Once put together (along with the model) you will have a well-rounded view of what life
was like on a manor for people of all walks of life.
Note that your mark will reflect both the end product as well as the skills you demonstrate while working
on this IN CLASS. Your mark will not be as good if do things at home and don’t demonstrate your
ability to work cooperatively, communicate, self-regulate, etc. during class time.
