Q1 Following figure shows the section of a weir founded on a sandy soil. Density of water is 997 kg/m3,
while specific gravity of floor material is 2.5. Apply Bligh’s Creep Theory to design impermeable floor
of the weir on permeable foundation providing a factor of safety of 25% and find the following:
a. Average hydraulic gradient
b. Uplift pressure at points A, B and C
c. Thickness of the floor at points A, B and C

Q2 Apply Lane’s Weighted Creep Theory to design impermeable floor of the weir on permeable foundation
using the same data as given in Q1.
