6. When a certain inductive coil is connected to a dc supply at TLO8 L3 1.4.1
240V, the current in the coil is 16A. When the same coil is connected to an ac supply at 240V, 50 Hz, the current is 12.27A. Calculate i) resistance, ii) impedance, iii) reactance and iv) the inductance of the coil. If the supply were to be altered to 60 Hz at 240V, then what happens to the current. 7. A coil of resistance 12 Ω and inductance 0.05H, a non TLO8 L3 1.4.1 inductive resistor of 20Ω resistance and a loss-free 40uF capacitor are connected in series across a 240V, 50Hz sinusoidal supply. Calculate a) the current b) the voltage across the coil and the capacitor, c) the power consumed in the circuit, d) the power consumed by the coil and e) the power factor of the circuit. 8. A voltage of 250V is applied to an inductive circuit of TLO8 L3 1.4.1 impedance (5+j10) Ω. Calculate current, power factor, apparent and reactive power. 9. A two element series circuit consumes 700W and has pf TLO8 L3 1.4.1 = 0.707 leading. If applied voltage is v=141.4 sin (314t + 30), find the circuit constants.
10. A metal filament lamp rated at 750W, 100V, is to be TLO8 L3 1.4.1
connected in series with a capacitor across a 230V, 60Hz supply. Calculate a) The capacitance required. b) The phase angle between current and supply voltage. 11. A 230V, single phase supply feeds the following loads. (a) TLO7 L3 1.4.1 incandescent lamps taking a current of 8A at unity power factor b) fluorescent lamps taking a current of 5A at 0.8 leading power factor (c) a motor taking a current of 7A at 0.75 lagging power factor, Sketch the phasor diagram and determine the total current, active power and reactive power taken from the supply and the overall power factor 12.
