Examples - On - Curves

The document outlines the calculation of necessary data for setting out a curve with a radius of 300 m at an intersection point. It includes calculations for tangent length, length of the curve, and deflection angles for each peg interval. The final table summarizes the chainage, chord lengths, tangential angles, deflection angles, and actual theodolite readings for setting out.

Example: Two straights intersect at the chainage of 1190 m, the deflec<on angle being 36.

̊
Calculate all the data necessary for seEng out a curve with a radius of 300 m by deflec<on
angle method. The peg interval is 30 m. if the least count of the theodolite is 20 ̋, calculate
the actual theodolite reading for seEng out.

Solu%on:
Chainage of point of intersec%on = 1190 m
Deflec%on angle = 36˚
Radius of curve = 300 m
Peg interval = 30 m
Least count of the theodolite is 20“

Tangent length, 𝑇 = 𝑅 tan "
36#
= 300 tan
2
= 97.48 𝑚
Chainage of point of intersec3on = 1190.0 m
Chainage of 𝑇$ = chainage of point of intersec3on – tangent length
1190 − 97.48 = 1092.52 𝑚
%&∆
Length of curve, 𝑙 = $'#!

𝜋×300×36

180#
= 188.50 𝑚

Chainage of 𝑇" = Chainage of 𝑇$ + length of curve

= 1092.52 + 188.50 = 1281.02 𝑚

Length of first sub chord = 1110 – 1092.52 = 17.48 m

Length of last sub chord = 1281.02 – 1260 = 21.02 m

$"(#)$$$#
Number of normal chords of 30 m = *#
=5

Total number of chords = 1 + 5 + 1 = 7
