ii. 8+3z + 9z – 2y -3y
iii. 2(p - 4) + 3 (2p+1 -11)
iv. x 2−2 - 32 +2
v. a (b – c + d) – a (b – c + d)
[2 x 5 = 10 marks] 1.2 Solve the following equations to find the value of x

i. x + 9 = -9
ii. 3x + 20 = 8
iii. 10x - 1 = 8x + 6
iv. 9x - 2 = 4x + 9
v. 4 – (x+2) = 2x + 3 (x - 8)
vi. 3 (2 + x) +5 = 2x + -5x
vii. -3 +2 (x+4) = 25

viii. =−

ix. −3 + 6+4
3 =−2

x. −8= +6
[2 x 10 = 20 marks]

1.3 Simplify each expression using the laws of exponents.

ii. The price of two baby shirts and three pairs of baby shorts is Rs. 1150. Three
baby shirts and a pairs of baby shorts cost Rs. 850. Taking the price of a baby
shirt as Rs. x and that of a pairs of baby shorts as Rs. y, construct two
simultaneous equations and find the price of a baby shirt and that of a pairs of
baby shorts separately by solving the two equations.

Question No 02: Sets
2.1
Use the below Venn diagram to write the answers.

ε = {240 of stundets who sat for the 1st semester exams}

H = {Students who sat for Mathematcs}
C = { Students who sat for English}
i. How many students sat for Mathematics exam? ii. How
many students sat for English exam? iii. How many students
Sat for both English and Mathematics? iv. How many students
who sat exactly for one of the exams?
v. How many students sat neither of the exams?
[2 x 5 = 10 marks]

2.2
In a Venn diagram, ε = {Students in a survey}, R = {Students who like rubgy} and F =
{Students who like football }
n (ε) = 20 n(R F) = 17 n(R) = 13 n(F) = 11

Find,
i. n (R ∩ F)
ii. n (R F)` iii. n (R ∩ F)` iv. n (R ∩ F`) v. n
(R` ∩ F)
