JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD

► MEMORY VERSE: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to
condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved”
(Jn.3:16-17).
► TEXTS: 1 Jn. 4:9, 5:13, 20.
FOUNDATIONAL CLASS

► INTRODUCTION

► In the previous lesson, we learnt of God's plan of redeeming man

from satanic domination and destruction. This plan started after the
fall of Adam, when God pronounced that the seed of the woman
shall bruise the head of the serpent (Gen.3:15). This prophecy was
fulfilled in the New Testament (Matt.1:21; Matt. 27 and 28), when
Jesus Christ came in the flesh to save man from sin. In this lesson,
we shall examine the Sonship of Jesus Christ, and the purpose of His
coming
FOUNDATIONAL CLASS

► PROOFS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD

1. Prophecies Given Before His birth

❖ Isa.9:6: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”.
❖ Micah 5:2: “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the
thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler
in Israel; whose going forth have been of old, from everlasting”

2 Angelic Visitation
❖ Lk.1:35: “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come
upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also
that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

3. After His baptism

► Matt.3:16-17: “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the
water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: “And lo a voice from heaven, saying,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

4. At the transfiguration
► Matt.17:5: “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and
behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased; hear ye him!”

5 At His death

∙ Matt.27:54: “Now when the centurion, and they that were with
him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that
were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of
God.”
∙ Mark 15:39: “And when the centurion, which stood over against
him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly
this man was the Son of God.”

in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world
to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (Jn. 3:16-17).
►Jesus Christ was sent into the world:
1. To rescue mankind from Satan's power (Lk.19:10; Col.1:13).
