Dear Student,
This module takes you through the concepts of “Sitting Arrangements”. This module will be helpful in
any competitive exams which practiced in the right can help the students to solve more challenging exams.
So, please make sure that your understanding is clear before your sit for the forthcoming lectures of your
course.
How to Study
Like all other word based chapters, your focus while studying this topic should be to:
Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the concepts and shortcuts explained by the faculty and identify the
various types in each chapter.
Step 2: Solve all questions from the ‘Tasksheet’ . If you cannot solve any particular question from this set,
please there will be tasksheet discussion sessions for most sheets. Otherwise, take an appointment with the
faculty and get them solved. Make sure you don’t leave any question unsolved.
Note : It is recommended that you try to solve the task questions individually first before consulting a faculty.
This will enhance your thinking capability.

Read the statements thoroughly to comprehend the explicit and the implied meaning which they carry.
Analyse each statement meticulously to exhume the complementary/ hidden meaning which may be
present in the statements.
Example: ‘Raja immediately precedes Rani’. In this statement, it is explicitly stated that Raja is behind
Rani. The complementary meaning here is that there is nobody in between Raja and Rani.
Note: Do not jump from one statement to another before understanding the statement thoroughly. This
will consume a longer time than what is required.
Use symbols and abbreviations to reduce a complex statement into a simple and understandable format.
Example: Rogers is taller than Sampras who is equal in age to Rafael, is shorter than Kate who is shorter
than Sampras.
The signal words typically hold the key for cracking the trick questions. They sometimes also give new
ideas and directions for solving problems.
At least, At most, All, Consecutives, Each, Except, If, Only, None, Same Example:
Ajith and Vijay were having at least two coins each with them.
It states that both Ajith and Vijay were having two coins with each of them. The key word at least implies
that they could have had more than two coins but not less than that.
Funda No. 4: Organise the information in the form of tables, maps or tree
Organising information in the form of tables, maps or trees helps one to visualise the information
presented to him in the form of multiple snippets, in a concise manner.
NEVER attempt to assume any data which is not mentioned or implied by the statement.
Example: Consider the statement ‘if Sami is selected in the team, Shoaib will also be selected’. It cannot
be assumed that if Shoaib is selected in the team, Sami will also be selected.
3. Mohan is older than Raju who is younger than Aman, and Ankit is not older than Raju
Deductions: I. Raju is younger than Mohan
4.To be in the theatre, each child (a person less than 13 years old) must be accompanied by an
adult.
Deductions: I. Champak who is ten could be in the theatre by himself.
