Ques:1 Define sets? Explain all operations of sets with Venn diagram.
Ques:2 i) Find the union of set A and B given that set A = {1, 2, 5} and set B = {7, 9}.
ii) Find the intersection of set X and Y given X = {1, 4} and Y = {3, 4, 5}.
iii) Find the complement of set P given the universal set U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} and P = {2, 5}.
iv) Find the set difference of sets C and D given that C = {10, 20, 30} and D = {1, 10}.
Ques:3 Prove any two laws of algebra of sets:
i) De Morgan’s law
ii) Distributive law
iii) Associative law
Ques:4 Use principle of inclusion and exclusion find the total number of integers between 1 and
1000 which are neither perfect square nor perfect cube.
Ques:5 i) What are the number of elements in the union of two sets P and Q with number of
elements 5, 6 respectively. Also, the number of common elements in both sets is 2.
ii) Find the number of elements in the intersection of two sets given the number of elements of
sets U and V are 8 and 9 and the number of elements in their union is 13.

ii) Difference between subset and proper subset. Explain with an example.

Ques:8 A small town has a total population 25000, out of which 13000 read English newspaper
and 10500 read the Hindi newspaper whereas 3500 read both papers. Find the percentage of
the population who read neither of these papers.

Check whether R is reflexive, symmetric, and transitive.

Ques:20 Let sets A={1,2,3,4}, B={5,6,7,8} and C={9,10,11,12}.
Two relations are defined using equations:
 Relation R from A to B is defined by:
R={(x,y)∣y=2x+3,x∈A,y∈B}
 Relation S from B to C is defined by:
S={(y,z)∣z=y−4,y∈B,z∈C}
Find the set representations of R and S, then compute their composition S∘R.
