Practical 9

The document outlines a practical exercise to generate random variables using the RANDBETWEEN function in Excel and perform multiple regression analysis with the Data Analysis tool. It details the steps to create random variables, categorize them, and analyze the results through various plots. The conclusion emphasizes the clarity of the multiple regression analysis outputs, including residual and probability plots.

Practical 9

Aim: To generate variables randomly using the RANDBETWEEN function and then perform multiple
regression using Data Analysis tool of Excel.

Problem:
Generate Random variables using RANDBETWEEN function in Excel and then perform Multiple
Regression of the random variables so obtained using DATA ANALYSIS tool of Excel. Also, show the
line plots, residual plots and the normal probability plot for the multiple regression performed for
the Random variables.

Excel Commands/Functions:
i) RANDBETWEEN (bottom, top): Returns a random integer number between the numbers you specify. A
new random integer number is returned every time the worksheet is calculated.

ii) Paste Special of Excel

Theory:
i) Using the RANDBETWEEN function, at first 10 random variables are obtained between 1 to 50 and
categorized under X1. Then the values are copied and pasted using Paste Special with only the values
selected. Similarly, X2, X3, X4 and X5 are categorized between ranges 1-40, 1-30,1-20, 1-10
respectively.

ii) Then using DATA ANALYSIS under the regression tab, X1 values are selected corresponding to the
Y range and X2, X3, X4 and X5 values are selected corresponding X range.

iii) Then the output range is selected. Checkboxes corresponding residuals, residual plots,
standardized residuals, line fit plots and normal probability plots are selected. And then Ok is
pressed.

Conclusion:
Multiple regression analysis table is obtained clearly specifying the Residual output corresponding
residual plot, Probability output corresponding probability plot and also the Normal probability plot.
