eBlaster: A deep dive
Introduction

eBlaster was a computer monitoring software created by SpectorSoft Corporation. It was designed for
parents and employers who wanted to keep an eye on computer activities remotely. The software
tracked what a user did online and sent detailed reports via email, helping parents protect their children
and employers monitor workplace productivity.

What is eBlaster?

eBlaster worked as a keylogger and activity tracker, running silently in the background once installed. It
recorded everything typed, including emails, chat messages, websites visited, and the apps being used.
The software then compiled all this data into easy-to-read reports and sent them to a chosen email
address at regular intervals. This way, parents could keep track of their child's online behavior, and
employers could ensure their staff was using work computers appropriately.

Details

It not only records all activity but also sends you reports via email at scheduled intervals. You can
choose to receive reports every 30 minutes, hourly, every 6 hours, or even once a day, whatever works
best for you. These reports provide a detailed summary of everything that happened on the monitored
computer during that period.

Setting Up eBlaster

Installation:

--> Agreement → Accept terms


--> EULA → Confirm license agreement
--> Serial Number → Enter product key
--> Options → Set email, password & hotkey
--> Express Delivery → Enable IM/Chat logging
--> Antivirus Check → Specify if using AV
--> Approve Files → Whitelist necessary files
--> Remove Installer? → Choose to delete setup file
--> Readme → Review final instructions
--> Setup Complete → Reboot & remove Internet Explorer references

After all the installation procedure, whhen you first log into your eBlaster online account, you'll be taken
to the Report Delivery section. This is where you configure your email settings, including:

• The email address where reports should be sent

• The frequency of the reports (hourly, daily, etc.)

• Whether reports should be sent in HTML or plain text format

There are also options to forward emails automatically. This means that if someone sends or receives an
email on the monitored device, a copy will be forwarded to you. The same applies to chat messages,
instant messages, and keyword alerts.

What Can eBlaster Record?

eBlaster provides an extensive set of monitoring features. You can enable or disable any of the following
tracking options with a simple click:

1. Chat & Instant Messaging: Records all chat conversations and messages.

2. Websites Visited: Keeps track of every website accessed.

3. Emails: Records all sent and received emails.

4. File Transfers: Logs any files uploaded or downloaded.

5. Keystrokes Typed: Captures everything typed on the keyboard, including passwords, regardless
if its online or offline. It will send you the report of what exactly is being typed.

6. Programs Accessed: Logs which applications are opened and used.

7. User Activity: Monitors general computer usage.

8. Documents Accessed: Keeps a record of all opened documents.

9. Printed Documents: Tracks documents that have been printed.

Customizing eBlaster’s Recording Settings

eBlaster allows you to customize recording schedules and choose which users to monitor. If multiple
users log in to the same computer with different accounts, you can:

• Monitor all users

• Monitor only specific users (e.g., your child’s account)

This makes it useful for parents monitoring their children, employers keeping an eye on employees, or
even for general security.

Keyword Alerts & Screenshots

One of the most powerful features of eBlaster is keyword alerts. If you re a parent or employer, you can
set up a list of keywords (e.g., adult content, specific phrases, or sensitive topics). If any of these words
are detected in:

• A typed message

• A chat conversation

• An email

• A visited website

• A file transfer

eBlaster will immediately send you an email notification.

Additionally, you can enable alert snapshots, which will capture a screenshot whenever a keyword is
detected. You can even configure it to take screenshots at regular intervals or when a specific event
occurs. If the computer has multiple monitors, eBlaster can capture screenshots from all screens
simultaneously.

Website & Chat Blocking

Beyond monitoring, eBlaster also includes blocking capabilities:

1. Website Blocking

You can:

o Block specific websites

o Allow access only to listed websites (useful for parental controls)

o Block all websites except approved ones

You can:

o Block all chat applications

o Block specific contacts

o Restrict chat activity for specific users

General Settings & Status Monitoring

The General Settings section includes various configuration options.

The Status Tab provides an overview of recent activity, including:

• The last time a report was sent

• The most recent forwarded email or chat log

• The latest keyword alert

Pros of eBlaster

emails, and application usage. You can even monitor the websites visited and the programs that
are opened.

which means the user won’t even know they’re being monitored. There are no obvious signs or
alerts, making it nearly impossible for the person being monitored to detect the

Cons of eBlaster

1. Limited URL Interception:


While eBlaster tracks websites visited, it doesn’t have a comprehensive URL interception
feature. This means it might miss some URLs or not log them as efficiently as other monitoring
tools. If you're looking for a detailed record of every website visited, this could be a downside
since eBlaster might not capture all of them.
2. No Clipboard Monitoring:
Another limitation is that eBlaster does not monitor clipboard activity. If the user copies and
pastes text (or files), eBlaster won't be able to capture that information. This can be a concern
for users who want to track every aspect of the device's usage, as clipboard content often
contains sensitive data like passwords or private messages.
3. Complex Pre-Installation Steps:
The installation process for eBlaster can be a bit complicated. There are several steps involved,
and it might not be the easiest setup process for everyone. Some users, especially those with
limited technical experience, could find this a bit cumbersome. Once installed, the software
works fine, but getting it up and running may require some patience.
4. Weak file activity monitoring:
eBlaster does not effectively track or log changes made to files on the monitored computer. This
includes actions like creating, modifying, deleting, or moving files.
5. Discontinuation & Compatibility:
eBlaster has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase or download. While it
was previously supported on older versions of Windows, it is not available for newer Windows
operating systems. Since SpectorSoft Corporation decided to phase out the product, there will
be no updates or support, making it outdated and potentially insecure over time
