LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO VARIABLES
1. The parking charges of a car in a parking lot is ₹ 30 for the first two hours and
₹ 10 per hour for subsequent hours . Taking total parking time to be x hours
and total charges as ₹ y .Write a linear equation in two variables to express the
above statement.
2. Let x and y be two complementary angles. Form an equation for this
information and find other angle if one of the angle is
a) 35° b) 40°
3. In a class , number of girls is x and that of boys is y . Also ,the number of girls
is 15 more than the number of boys . Write the given data in the form of a linear
equation in two variables . Find the number of girls , if the number of boys is
20.
4. Write linear equation in two variables to represent the following statement
“ The length of an infant´s arm is about one – third of the infant´s height” ?
5. Two years later , a father will be eight years more than three times the age of
the son. Taking the present age in years of father and son as x and y
respectively .
i) Write a linear equation for the above .
ii) Find the age of father , when son´s age is 10 years.
6. The point (2,3) lies on the graph of the linear equation 3x – (a – 1)y = 2a – 1.
