c. Show enthusiasm and interest in reading short stories.

Before we read our story remember the standard for oral reading.

- Stand straight
- Read loudly and clearly
- Stop at periods and pause at commas.

Read the story then answer the questions that follow.

Bam’s Fat Hen

Bam has a fat hen.


Laying eggs in a nice nest.
A boy hits the nest.
Oh! Bam sobs and sobs.
The eggs were broken into the mud.

Today we will be focusing on the short sentence and short stories consisting /a/,
/e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/.

By reading short sentences, and stories consisting words with short a, e, i, o


and u, you will be able to answer the WH questions.
WH questions are questions that begin with one of the following words:

Who: Used to ask about a person or people.


What: Used to ask about a thing, an action, or an idea.
Where: Used to ask about a location or place.
When: Used to ask about a time.
Why: Used to ask about a reason.
How: Used to ask about a method or way of doing something.

Short Sentences
What they are:

Sentences express a complete thought.


They have a subject (who or what is doing something) and a predicate (what is
being done).
They start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark (period,
question mark, or exclamation point).

Examples:
"The dog barked."
"She is happy."
"We play games."
"Is it raining?"

What is Short Story?

A short story is a concise piece of prose fiction, typically focusing on a single


event or incident with a limited number of characters and a clear beginning,
middle, and end, aiming to evoke a specific mood or effect, and generally
shorter than a novel or novella.

of words with short a, e, i, o and u.
