MAPS (LAYOUTS)

To change to the layout view, go to the menu View Layout View or the icon at the
bottom of the ArcMap screen (see the figure on the right).

The Tools toolbar is not valid to move around the printed space. You must activate the Layout
zoom toolbar, using the path Customize→Toolbars→Layout.

1.1 Templates (.MXT)

First, set up the paper, printer, etc. using the menu File→Page and print setup…

You can also select templates using the template icon on the Layouts toolbar, a template file
(.MXT) on the hard disc or templates installed in the software (various window tabs: My
templates, General and World).

1.2 Layout elements

If you want to insert certain elements into the presentation, such as a linear scale, a title, a
legend, the direction north, etc., do so using the menu Insert→… and select the required
element. You can insert logotypes using the option Insert→Picture.

In the layout, you will only see the layers that are visible in the Data Frame. To change the name
or the symbology with which the legend is displayed, you will have to change it in the TOC.

To insert a grid with coordinates on a Data Frame of the Layout, right click on data
frame→Properties, Grid tab. In the window that appears, click on the New Grid button and
then select the Measured Grid option. Define the grid step by step and apply it.

To edit any of the features inserted in the Layout, double click on the feature using the feature
selection icon. Below are those that are used most frequently.

1.3 Export / print


The layout can be sent directly to print (on a printer or in .PDF format from the menu File→Print
→ Setup button→ PDF Creator or it can be exported to a document in “image” format (.JPG,
GIF, Windows metafile .WMF, etc.) from the menu File→Export Map…

Using the tabs General and Format, the resolution and the colour format can be modified.
