First Project, Description & Requirements

311-Construction I

Kabul University
Engineering Faculty, Architecture Dep.

Introduction

 In order to understand and realize the topics we are studying


during our lectures
 To learn the practical and applicable way of construction problems

 To learn how better an architect can present his/her imagination


and idea of design and transfer or explain his idea for
implementing the construction.

 Specifically we are looking for:

 How to work with and present working drawings

 Working with dimensions and sizes in large scales

 Working with references, details, and coordination

 Working with larger scale construction drawings

 Solving construction problem.


First Project Out line

 Any project , that its area isn't more then 300m2.

 two story Bearing Wall, Wooden log cover roof. Local construction
or raw materials , brick masonry wall, and any local technology.

 Design projects can be used / can bring to Construction class

 Students can design new projects. (if wish)

 The design should not be Copy from someone else or source.

 Dead line for submission is as per course schedule for term.

 Late work will not be acceptable.

 Any problem should be reported in first week of assignment.

 The projects is out lined as below but not limited to these:


First Project Out line
Plans:

1. Site plan 1:100


2. Location plan 1: 100/200
3. Roof plan 1:50
4. First floor plan 1:50
5. Foundation plan 1:50/ 1:25
6. Any other plan if applicable 1:50

 Basement plan if applicable in design.

 Many plans could be presented as required or needed by design or


project goal.
First Project Out line
 Site Plan Requirement:
1. General Layout to show the relation of proposed building to neighbors
2. Existing features and any additional building connected to main
building
3. Side walking, tranches, Roads, Trees, Green area, and shades .
4. North direction and Qablah orientation.
5. Legend may add to introduce the used symbol or explain the features.

Full dimensions required to determine the min size and orientation of all
features

Any special requirement or structure is existing may need additional


presentation and should be included.
General notes: are required to determine the min. Requirement and specs
for proposed site.
First Project Out line
 Location Plan Requirement:
1. General Layout to show the relation of proposed building to area and
location where the building located in reign.
2. Existing features, roads, streets, town map in smaller scale.
3. Side walking, tranches, Roads, Trees, Green area, and shades .
4. North direction and Qablah orientation.
5. Legend may add to introduce the used symbol or explain the features.

Full dimensions may not required to determine the size and orientation of
all features, only graphic can work.

Any special or focal point, temple, famous building, museum or target.


Final Project Out line
Roof plan: 1:50

1. Top view of design or building where one can see the roof of the
structure.
2. Dimensions min. 3 lines all around.
3. Presentation of roof materials in layers with full explanation as
required.
4. General notes for materials, guild lines and so on.
5. Direction or orientation for North.
6. Location of attached structure
7. Slope of the roof and direction
8. Location of gutter and down spots .
9. Shape of the roof, if different.
10. Grid lines in both directions (X. Y)

 Floor plan Requirements:

 Working Drawings:
 Legends
 General Notes
 Rooms numbering system ( as directed)
 Grid lines ( both direction X.Y)
 Levels on floors
 Fixtures in toilets.
 No furniture or portable equipments
 Door and window References
 Door and window numbering
 Finishing Schedule as per room function and numbers
 Dimensions ( min. 3 lines) or as required.
 Section direction and References
 Detail references , if any.
 North Arrow (direction)

 Foundation Plan Requirements:

 Working Drawings:
 Legends
 General Notes
 Grid lines ( both direction X.Y)
 Dimensions ( min. 3 lines) or as required.

 Detail references , or Foundation details.
 North Arrow (direction)
 Show the load bearing and non bearing walls thickness.
 Several section and details are required to explain the foundation size
and depth through a project.

Sections: 1:50

 Min two sections are required. If the building design is complex or the
two section can not present those complicated part additional sections
should be provided.
1. Long Section 1:50
2. Short Section 1:50
3. Sections should draw in plans, and references should provide to any
sheet used or presented.
4. Sections should be draw through most complex locations of plan.
5. Sections are the most important part of construction drawings
6. It should be presented in most accuracy and designer shall do his/her
best to present most of the information in these sections.
7. If required, additional section shall provided, or enlarged details are
the second option for solving those complex problems.

Sections:
1. Sections lines should draw in plans, and references should provide to
any sheet used or presented.
2. Sections should be draw through most complex locations of plan.
3. Sections shall taken and present the building structure from
foundation through roof construction.
4. Site levels and internal levels shall provided for every section and
inside the building.
5. Vertical dimension for levels and section are necessary.
6. Wall section references shall draw from typical corners of building
7. Clear references shall made to wall sections
8. Details circle and reference shall be clear from section
9. Grid lines should be visible and match the plan in all axis.
10. Door and window reference codes shall be visible in sections.
11. Human scale, land escape, tree or any feature that can present the
relative scale and can compeer the object should be added.
12. Materials, size thickness or other information required.
First Project Out line
Elevations: 1:50

 Min. four elevation are required. If the building design is complex or


the four elevation can not present those complicated parts, additional
views shall be provided.
1. Grid lines should be visible in Elevation (center lines)
2. References may required if some elements or finishing of building
need details
3. Levels for all steps and building elements shall provided. ( dash line)
4. Vertical dimension may required to determine total level and height of
building.
5. Human scale, land escape, tree or any object can present the scale
shall be used.
6. For more clear and visible view the building back ground may be better
idea.
First Project Out line
Wall Section: 1:25 or 1:15
 Enlarged scaled wall section that show the detailed information of
exterior and interior wall layers.
 Detail references shall shown and referenced from these WS.
 Min two wall section required for each project.
 The wall section be from foundation through roof.

 Door and Window Schedule:


 Referenced door and window should organized in oriented schedule.
 It shall show the vertical and horizontal dimension of door size
 Materials and any change of technology made in window or door.
 Explanation of hardware if applicable
 Door and window drawings shall be on each side of schedule.

 Details: 1:10- 1:5 or as required.


 Enlarged details of foundation, lintels, exterior wall, roof, basement,
