Here is the step-by-step procedure to perform the Friedman test (within-group) and Mann-Whitney

U test (between-group) in SPSS using your fracture healing score data.

1. Data Entry in SPSS

1. Open SPSS.

2. Go to Variable View and define the variables:

o Create a "Group" variable (Numeric: 1 = Group I, 2 = Group II).

o Create five time point variables (7th, 15th, 30th, 60th, 90th day).

3. Switch to Data View and enter the fracture healing scores for each subject.

2. Friedman Test (Within-Group Comparison)

This test will compare fracture healing scores within each group across different time points.

Steps to Perform the Friedman Test

1. Click Analyze → Nonparametric Tests → Legacy Dialogs → K Related Samples.

2. In the "Test Variables" box, select all time point variables (7th, 15th, 30th, 60th, 90th).

3. Choose Friedman as the test type.

4. Click OK to run the test.

5. Interpret the results:

o If p < 0.05, there is a significant difference in fracture healing scores over time.

3. Mann-Whitney U Test (Between-Group Comparison at Each Time Point)

This test will compare Group I vs. Group II at each individual time point.

Steps to Perform the Mann-Whitney U Test

1. Click Analyze → Nonparametric Tests → Legacy Dialogs → 2 Independent Samples.

2. Move the time point variable (e.g., 7th day, 15th day, etc.) into the Test Variable List box.

3. Move "Group" into the Grouping Variable box.

4. Click Define Groups and enter:

o Group 1 = 1 (Group I)

o Group 2 = 2 (Group II)

5. Select Mann-Whitney U as the test type.

6. Click OK to run the test.

7. Repeat the test for each time point (7th, 15th, 30th, 60th, and 90th day).

8. Interpret the results:

o If p < 0.05, the groups are significantly different at that time point.

4. Post-Hoc Tests (If Friedman Test is Significant)

If the Friedman test shows significance, you can perform Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Tests to identify
which time points differ.

Steps for Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test

1. Click Analyze → Nonparametric Tests → Related Samples.

2. Select two time points at a time (e.g., 7th vs. 15th day).

3. Choose Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test.

4. Click OK and check for significant differences.

5. Repeat for all time point combinations.

5. Reporting Results

 If Friedman test is significant, report the p-value and conduct post-hoc tests.

 If Mann-Whitney U test is significant, report the median scores and p-value at each time
point.

 Use boxplots for visualization:

o Click Graphs → Boxplot → Simple.

o Select time points and group variable to generate plots.
