Structural Theory Problem Set No. 1b

The document presents a problem set focused on the analysis of determinate trusses, requiring the determination of forces in various truss members and their states of tension or compression. It includes four distinct types of trusses, each illustrated with figures and specific loading conditions. The analysis involves calculating forces based on given dimensions and support conditions.

1.

For the type 1 compound truss shown in

Figure 1, determine the force in each member
and state if the members are in tension or
compression. The internal angle between any
two members is 60°. The truss is pin supported
at A and roller supported at F.

2. For the type 2 compound truss shown in

Figure 2, determine the force in each member
and state if the members are in tension or
compression. Trusses ACE and BDF are connected
by three bars, BE, CD, and DE. Dimensions in
meters.

3. Determine the forces in all the members of

the lattice (complex) truss shown in Figure 3
and state if the members are in tension or
compression. Hint: Substitute member JE by one
placed between K and F. Dimensions in meters.

4. For the space truss shown in Figure 4,

determine the force in each member and state
if the members are in tension or compression.
