Lesson: Simple Past vs.

Past Progressive

Objective:

By the end of this lesson, students will understand the differences between the simple past
and past progressive and how to use them correctly in sentences and conversations.

1. Explanation of Simple Past and Past Progressive

A. Simple Past

• Used for completed actions in the past.

• Often used with time expressions like yesterday, last week, two days ago, in
2010, etc.

• Structure: Subject + verb (past form) + rest of the sentence.

• Examples:

• I watched a movie last night.

• She visited her grandmother yesterday.

B. Past Progressive (Past Continuous)

• Used for actions that were happening at
