4as Digestive System

The lesson plan aims to teach students about the digestive system, including its organs and the processes involved in digestion. Activities include identifying digestive processes, discussing the roles of different organs, and evaluating understanding through multiple-choice questions. The lesson emphasizes cooperation, teamwork, and the importance of caring for the digestive system.

4A’s SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

I. OBJECTIVE
a. Identify the organs that make up the digestive system.
b. Describe the processes involve in digestion of food in an organism.
II. LEARNING TASK

A. Subject Matter : Structures and Functions: Focus on the Digestive System

Focusing Skills: Identifying and Explaining
Concepts: Digestive system made up of different organs and its interaction with
organ of the respiratory, circulatory, and excretory system.
Social Skills: Cooperation and teamwork
B. References: Science 8 Learning Module
C. Materials: Laptop, Power Point, and Cartolina

III. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY

A. Pre- Activity
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Review
Ask students about periodic table of elements as a review for the past
lesson.
What is Periodic Table of Elements?
What are the vertical columns in the periodic table mean?
 Motivation
Did you experienced looking yourself in the mirror and opening your
mouth? What have you seen or observe in your mouth? Do you think it
have a part in the digestive system?

B. Activity Proper
The students will identify the specific process involved in breaking down of food
into simple forms. The students need to find the missing letters and complete the
word correctly.
DIGESTION
Living organisms need food to survive. Food is the source of energy and
nourishment for them to perform various life processes. Since food that living
organisms take is in a complex form, it must be broken down into smaller
pieces that the body can absorb and utilize through the process of digestion.
How are these food particles simplified? What processes are involved in
digestion which brings about change in food into simplest form? The process
follows a sequence and these are: Ingestion, Absorption, Assimilation, and
Excretion.

1. Taking in of food

n e t o n
2. Up taking of nutrients/materials

A s r t o

3. Using of nutrients by the body.

s s m l t o n

4. Removing of undigested materials

E c r t n

5. Breaking down of food into absorbable forms

D g s t i n

C. Analysis
(The activity will be check during discussion)

The mouth is the beginning of digestive tract. Digestion starts here as soon as
food is ingested.
Indigestion is the process of taking in of food. Chewing breaks food into pieces
and saliva helps in the process of breaking down smaller parts into absorbable
form. Food travels into the esophagus by means of a series of contractions called
peristalsis. It reaches the stomach, a sac-like organ with strong muscular walls.
Aside from holding food, it acts as a mixer or grinder. Secretion of enzymes
happens here. The small intestines continue the process of breaking down food
by using enzymes released by the pancreas and bile from the liver. Absorption of
nutrients into the bloodstream happens here, specifically in jejunum and ileum
area. Once the nutrients are absorbed, it is now ready for body use through the
process of assimilation. Stool or waste left over from the digestive process is
passed through the colon or large intestine. The colon has the ability to empty its
contents into the rectum from the colon and finally excreted via the anus.
The process of digestion breaks down food particles into absorbable
substances to be used by the body cells. In digestion, the cells in our body use the
food we eat as a source of energy to keep us going. Have you ever wondered how
those pieces of food turned into something, which you can use in your daily
activities? Each piece or bit of food you eat has parts that your body uses and
other parts that become waste. In order to get what it needs from the food you eat
your body must break down into tiny pieces, small enough to carried by your
blood stream.
So, what are the ways by which the food is broken down?
There are two ways by which the food is broken down; Mechanical Digestion and
Chemical Digestion.
Mechanical Digestion- involves physically breaking the food into tiny bits and
pieces. This starts in the mouth after food is ingested and chewed.
Chemical Digestion- involves the breaking down food into simpler forms that
can be used and assimilated by the body. The active role of enzymes helps the
digestive system with chemical changes.

D. Abstraction
