Please take note of the following:

 As a college student, you're an adult and are expected to take responsibility for your own
planning, grades, and overall performance in this course. I would be delighted to help you
with any problems that arise, but it's your responsibility to let me know when that help is
needed.
 I will rarely comment on discussion boards, but please be aware that I read everything
you post and will add comments when necessary. I see the discussion boards primarily as
a place for you to express yourself and interact with each other.
 You are responsible for knowing the status of your work and whether or not it has been
properly submitted. Make sure you get a successful submission confirmation screen for
each assignment.
 You can expect your work to be returned to you within one week of its due date. Should
something arise that will keep me from returning your work within this time frame, I'll let
you know.
 When you submit a late assignment, even with an approved excuse, bear in mind that my
focus will still be on returning timely submissions first. I usually grade outstanding late
work around the mid point of the term and again by final grades.
 Out of fairness to everyone, if you submit an assignment that has a technical issue (i.e. a
file that won't open) I'll be forced to treat the resubmission according to the late policy.
This is because, frankly, file errors are easy to create on purpose and, in any event, you
will be receiving extra time the rest of the class did not to complete your work.
 Speaking of the late policy, please take note of it--it will be applied.
 If you encounter a problem (personal or professional) that means you will need to have
substantially more time to complete your work, I will be asking you for documentation of
the problem (i.e. a doctor’s bill, letter, etc.) submitted via e-mail. Unfortunately, this
includes delays due to deaths in the family or hospitalizations. I understand it's
uncomfortable to receive a request for documentation, but I see no other way to enforce
this policy in a uniform way.
 I will rarely check email on weekends, but rest assured that I'll respond to your questions
or concerns once the work week begins.
 Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have questions or problems. I can often help
you with issues if you come to me in a timely manner, but if you wait for the deadline to
pass, I have to post the grade that you've earned.
 Enjoy the class! History is my passion and I'm thrilled to begin this semester with you!
