E. Short answer questions.


1. What is a window?
Ans. Whenever we open an application, file or folder on our computer, it appears on the
screen in a rectangular box called window. So we can say that a window is a separate
viewing area that displays its contents.

2. What are the window control buttons?


Ans. On the Windows Operating system, every application window has three buttons-
Minimize, Maximize and Close. These buttons are collectively called window control
buttons.

3. What is a file or folder?


Ans. Files and folders are two primary elements of Windows operating system. They help
to organize every type of information stored in the computer. A file is an object that
contains data or information. There are many different types of files; such as a word
document, a presentation, a spreadsheet an image file. A folder is a system container that
can hold files, applications and other folders (subfolders) on the computer. They are
mainly created to arrange or group the files and folders.

4. How do you cascade windows?


Ans. When we choose the ‘cascade windows’ option, all the opened windows overlap one
another on your desktop. Only, the title bar remains visible so that we can always see
which windows are open. Cascading windows are also called overlaid windows.

5. What would you do to view the desktop completely, if multiple windows are opened?
Ans. To view the desktop completely, if multiple windows are opened we will click the
‘Show the desktop’ option. By clicking this option, all the open windows on our desktop
will get minimized and we would be able to view the desktop background.
6. How do you rename a file?
Ans. Renaming means changing the name of an existing folder or file. To rename a folder
or file we have to follow these steps:

a. Open the File Explorer and locate your file or folder. For example, click Documents and
select the folder or file to be renamed.
b. Select the Home tab.
c. Click the Rename option.
d. Selected folder or file name becomes editable. Type in a new name for the selected
folder or file.

F. Long answer questions.

1. Describe the File Explorer. How do you create a folder using the File explorer? Write
steps.
Ans. File Explorer tools allow us to create and manage files and folders on the computer.
The steps to create a folder using the File Explorer are:-
a. Open the File Explorer and click on a drive or folder where you want to create a new
folder. For example, choose Documents folder.
b. Select the Home tab.
c. Click the New Folder option. A new folder appears.
d. Type in a new name for the created folder.

2. What is Recycle bin? How do you move files or folders to the Recycle bin?
Ans. When you delete a file or folder in windows, it is placed in the Recycle Bin. To remove
unwanted files and folders, select them in the File Explorer window and click the Delete
option in the home tab. Selected items will be moved to the Recycle bin.

3. Write the steps to move a folder from D: drive to E: drive.


Ans. The steps to move a folder from D: drive to E: drive are:-
a. Open the File Explorer.
b. Locate and select the files or folders from D: drive which are to be moved to E: drive.
c. Click the Move to button.
d. Select files from D: drive.
e. The Move Items dialog box appears. Choose a new location where the selected items
are to be moved, i.e. E: drive.
f. Click the Move Button. The selected files or folders will be moved.
