PPDS OSS Handling Fixed Orders in Model Mix Planning

SAP Note 547904 provides guidance on handling PP-fixed orders in model mix planning within the SCM-APO-PPS-MMP component. It outlines procedures for managing output-fixed orders based on different planning bases, detailing how orders are deleted and recreated while maintaining production quantities. Additionally, it includes rules for protecting orders from changes and the implications of using various optimization algorithms.

547904 - Handling fixed orders in model mix planning

Component: SCM-APO-PPS-MMP (Supply Chain Management > Advanced Planning and Optimization >
Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling > Model Mix Planning), Version: 6, Released On: 06.07.2005

Symptom
This note provides information on the handling of PP-fixed orders in model mix planning.

Other Terms
Model mix planning; /SAPAPO/SEQ2

Reason and Prerequisites

Solution
Note
If an order is output-fixed, it is implicitly PP-fixed.
Procedure in model mix planning
In model mix planning, the following procedure is followed for output-fixed orders:
Planning basis: Cumulated per day or per shift based on requirements
PP-fixed orders are deleted. New PP-fixed orders are created, and the production
quantity of the products that was previously fixed remains the same.
Planning basis: Requirements-oriented with lot size 1
PP-fixed orders are deleted. Instead, new PP-fixed orders with a lot size of 1 are
created and the planned production quantity of products remains the same.
Planning basis: Order-oriented with a lot size of 1
If PP-fixed orders exists with a lot size greater than 1, these are deleted. Orders
with a lot size of 1 are created, and the planned production quantity of products
remains the same.
If PP-fixed orders with a lot size of 1 exist, these are retained.
Tool to protect orders from changes.
If orders are not to be changed, and if they can be deleted and created again in one of the
cases specified above, you can do this by fixing the order activity of the planning section
for the corresponding orders. This form of fixing can be implemented using an expert
function within the framework of sequencing.
Note the following rules if you are working with orders in which the order activity of the
planning segment was firmed:
If you are using an order-driven or demand-driven planning basis with lot size 1, then
every fixed-activity order that is not exactly in a takt is offset so that it is exactly
in a takt. In this way, the orders are placed in a takt-based sequence. Fixed-activity
orders that are already scheduled for each takt are no longer changed.
If you are using a sequence-driven optimization algorithm in combination with a demand-
driven planning basis (cumulated per day or shift), then the system summarizes the
fixed-activity orders with lot size 1 and schedules them at the start of a day or a
shift.
If you are using a sequence-driven optimization algorithm, then the system also deletes
the fixed-activity orders with a lot size greater than 1 and creates new planned orders
with lot size 1. The optimization takes place after that.
If you are using a sequence-driven optimization algorithm in combination with an
order or demand-driven planning basis with lot size 1, then the system schedules the
orders with lot size 1 in a takt-based sequence (one order per takt).
If you are using a sequence-driven optimization algorithm in combination with a
demand-driven planning basis (cumulated per day or per shift), then the system
summarizes all fixed-activity orders and schedules them at the start of a day or a
shift (see the preceding rule).

If you use a period-based optimization algorithm and in this case there is an order that
is activity fixed and with an order quantity that is larger than the quantity that can
be produced within the period (bucket), then this order is deleted. The system creates
several activity fixed orders in the place of the deleted order. In this case, each
period is maximally deallocated to 100%.
