NOTE: It is recommended that you install the version available at the beginning of the semester and
keep that version for the entire semester to avoid compatibility issues.

Some Questions to help guide you in the right direction if you are having
an issue with starting to Use Cisco Packet Tracer.

Question - Do you have Cisco Packet Tracer Application installed on your PC?
If you have it installed ... skip to the next question.
If you have not actually installed the Cisco Packet Tracer Application on your PC, then use the following

Site?
If you have Cisco Packet Tracer installed ... skip to the next question.
If you are having trouble downloading the Cisco Packet Tracer Application file from Cisco, then use the

Question - Are you having trouble starting the Chap 1 Lab for our class?
If you are having an issue with starting the Chap 1 Lab for our class, then there are 2 resources you can
use to help get rolling.
● Starting Labs Help File - use the following direction page to walk you through getting the first lab
rolling for the semester. After you do a lab or 2 this will become much easier.

t?usp=sharing
● Podcast - The first podcast listed with the lab direction file (D2L -> CNT 120 -> Content -> Chap 1
-> Do -> Online Lab) shows how to get the lab started using Packet Tracer.
Cisco Packet Tracer “Logged Out”

After you have installed Cisco Packet Tracer … On first login to Cisco Packet I had you select the slide
switch to keep you logged in for 3 months. This keeps Cisco Packet Tracer “Logged in” for 3 Months and
does not ask you to login each time you load Packet Tracer. After 3 Months, this will expire and you will
need to repeat the login process again.

When you sign into Packet Tracer it will ask for you to login with the account you created (Skills For All
Account) when you first downloaded and installed Packet Tracer (in my directions I indicated you
should use a personal email since the HACC email often gets hung up in the Spam/Junk folder).

So, use the Skills For All account that you created when you downloaded and installed Packet Tracer to
log back into Cisco Packet Tracer. Unfortunately I do not have access to those accounts for you, so I am
able to help remedy any password/account issues.

Drag and Drop Issue on MAC Systems

If you are having a “Drag and Drop” Issue on your MacBook (dragging a module to place in a PC or
Router is not working correctly), a few items to try:
1. Try using an actual Mouse connected to your MacBook to help with Drag and Drop
2. Try adjusting your Trackpad and/or Mouse Settings
3. Save the Packet Tracer File. Close the Packet Tracer File. Create a folder on your desktop.
Drag and drop the packet tracer saved file to that folder. Re-Launch the Packet Tracer File and
try the Drag and Drop.

saved and try the same action.

● Create a folder on your desktop. Drag and drop the saved PT file to that folder. Open PT and
then open that saved PT file from that folder on your desktop.

● Using Workspace List Option

○ Make sure the Device is Powered Off (click on Device and use the power button)
○ On the Top Menu Bar of Cisco Packet Tracer select the “Workspace” Icon (It is near the
