ashmithaa
A very good evening to one and all! I’m Ashmithaa of grade 9 and we are very happy to have
you all here for the 13th Sports Day function of
Pushpalata British International School.
(The chief guest has arrived and the school band, as a mark of honour, proudly escort our
special guest, to the dais. (Yes, the procession starts at the beat of the band) and… )
ashmithaa
In the assembling of the procession, we see our correspondent, Mrs. Pushpalata Poornan,
(SP, Mrs. Pushpaveni Aiyyappan), the principal of Matric, Mr. Harris Jebaraj, OUR principal
Mr. Godwin S. Lamuel… ushering the chef guest into the ground at the dais. And here we
are to proudly announce the arrival of a true legend, ------------------------
who was received by our correspondent, along with the band.
Sachiel
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! This is Sachiel of gr 8!
Since the school was founded, there has been an annual sports day tradition. The fact that
all of our students embrace the tradition of sporting drills and marching pasts with fervour,
fills our hearts with excitement. (SLOW) The excitement only grows with each passing year.
It increases our anticipation for what lies ahead.
PRAYER
ashmithaa
Prayer is the fusion of body and soul. One says that prayer changes things, but I believe that
prayer changes us, and we change things for the better. Let us all unite our mind and soul in
the presence of God to seek his abundant blessings.
I invite our school choir to invoke the Almighty by a prayer song, and I request all of you to
rise for this invocation.
Sachiel
Thank you, choir!
WELCOME ADDRESS
“The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind, but the goodness of a
gathering spreads in all the directions”.
A very blissful evening to the gathering of the hon’ble guest, esteemed parents and valued
spectators. It gives us immense pleasure to welcome you all to our 13th Sports day meet.
Now I call upon our school president, David Reji Lijoraj, to welcome the august gathering of
today’s fest. (Welcome address)
ashmithaa
Thank you, David.
A sound mind resides in a sound body. Sports and games help in large muscle co-ordination
resulting in physical fitness apart from inculcating sportsmanship, leadership, unity and a
competitive spirit among the students.
MARCH PAST
Sachiel
The importance of march-past on a sports day is to show team spirit. It’s a way to know who
is playing for your team. It develops discipline as well as co-ordination among the unit, let it
be a squad, a platoon, a battalion, or a team. A march past is not only magnificent, but it also
always manages to be incredibly uplifting because of the students’ sense of honour and
integrity.
(Captain reporting to the chief guest about the march past – David (salutes) “We the
students of PBIS, girls 200? in number and boys ?200 in number are here for the march
past.”)
Ashmithaa
Leading the march, after reporting to the chief guest, is David reji lijoraj of Grade 12, our
school president, who is an amazing football player who has also scored A stars in math, ict

Sachiel
The band team is followed by the Sunstone team led by its captain Anushka eeshwaran of
grd 12, and the Amethyst team led by captain jafrina David also of grd 12.
Each of the two houses of Pushpalatha British International School is represented by their
fellow Captains and vice captains. Uniformity is the symbol of discipline and here to your
sight is the Sunstone house, marching majestically, dressed in bright orange symbolising
passion, sincerity, power and strength, led by the house captain, Anushka Eeshwaran of grad
12, who is an amazing pianist and has excellent public speaking skills, followed by the
energetic vice-captain Siddeshwaran of grade 11. He has scored A* in English, Math,

ashmithaa

{We are extremely glad to introduce the two distinctive houses of PBIS, Amethyst and
Sunstone.}
Sachiel
There come our seniors, the Maypole team from the sunstone house, followed by Maypole
team from the amethyst house from grades 6 -9, who proudly march pass the dais…
A Maypole dance is a traditional folk dance performed around a tall pole. Dancers
hold ribbons attached to the pole and weave in and out, creating intricate patterns as
they circle the pole. It symbolizes spring and renewal, with lively movements and
colorful costumes.
ashmithaa
Then, the Stick drill team from the Sunstone house, followed by the Stick drill team from the
amethyst house with students of grades 3 to 5. A stick dance is a traditional dance where
dancers use sticks as props, striking them in rhythm. It is often seen in cultures like
African, and Indigenous traditions, symbolizing strength, unity, or celebration.
Sachiel:
The Tambourine team from Amethyst house, followed by the Tambourine team from the
sunstone house from grades 1 and 2. A Tambourine Drill is where the performer uses a
tambourine, shaking or tapping it to create rhythm while dancing. It is common in
folk, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean cultures, often symbolizing celebration and
joy. The tambourine complements the dancer's movements, adding rhythm and
energy to the performance.
Ashmithaa:
And here come the students from the special teams – yoga and karate.
Yoga and Karate have been a part of our co-curricular programs in which the students have
been regularly trained twice a week.
Sachiel
(We can watch that the march past as a powerful stride of resilience, where each
synchronized step becomes a testament to the strength and fortitude of a collective spirit
moving forward with unwavering determination. Besides being spectacular, there is
something enigmatically inspiring about a march past; the sense of dignity and pride the
marchers bring to it.)
ashmithaa
(When accompanied by some stirring marching music by the band, a well-organized march
past is a feast for the eyes and ears. Focus is placed on bearing, marching, saluting, and
coordination in a thorough march past routine. (They provide, a comprehensive march past
drill that they start out, laying emphasis on these).)
FLAG HOISTING
ashmithaa
The School Flag and the school motto identify the school and inspires the school community
to work towards its goal. It’s the pride of the school and reveals the school spirit and
promotes the school identity for all to see, representing the school and what it stands
For.
Captain (david) invite the CG for Flag hoisting. “Ma’m/ sir, I request you to please come
forward and hoist the PBIS flag for us and take the salute from the president, vice president
and the captains of the two houses.”
Ashmithaa
To survive in peace and harmony, united and strong, we must have one people, one nation.
Now we request our honourable chief guest Mr. ________________ to hoist the flag and
take the salute from the cadets of our two houses.
(This flag has the famous Learn, live; lead; slogan on bright yellow and blue background
symbolic of the spirit of the school, which also highlights the importance of physical activity
and sports in school.)
Sachiel
With flag etiquettes, the ideals of the institution, the objectives it stands for, flies high,
developing discipline, a feeling of commitment, and a sense of purpose.
Thank you, dear sir/ ma’am. Flying the school flag truly means inclusiveness, equity and
feeling welcomed in school.
(Mr. Arun gives the Script to the Chief-guest… “On behalf of PBIS, I declare the sports meet
Open.”)
Sachiel
Now the president invites our Guest of Honour to officiate the sports meet open.
ashmithaa
PBIS Anthem
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself,” {change this adage} Hence,
Oh PBIS, we thank you for making us what we are. School Anthem sums up hopes and
aspirations of the school. It is the bonding factor that arouses the spirits, uplifts and enthuses
the students with pride of belongingness to the institution with a feeling of loyalty and faith.
I call upon our school choir to intone our school song; letz stand in attention for the school
Anthem.
OATH TAKING
Sachiel
“Oath will encourage fidelity to an extent that makes one perform accountably to keep up
faith”.
Now the president will administer the oath and the vice president and all the respective
captains, vice captains and the participants will raise their right hand to take the oath.
The torch and the Olympic flame are the two greatest symbols of sportsmanship. The torch
represents the “endeavour for protection and struggle for victory”. The dancing flame
symbolizes ‘the light of spirit, knowledge and life.’ In the context of the modern Games, the
Olympic flame is a manifestation of positive values.
Sachiel
And there we go, and the Olympic flame starts its epic journey! The first torch bearer of the
Olympic flame is Hamsavarthini of grade 4 who has won 10 gold medals and 1 bronze in the
state level age group swimming championship that took place in Tirunelveli and has won 3
gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze in the short course swimming championship that took
place in Madurai.
ashmithaa
Now the Olympic torch is passed on to Harish of grade 6 who has won the CM district level
trophy for table tennis in doubles. He is also a state participant which was held in
Chengalpet. He is also the winner in south zone TN.
The Olympic flame symbolizes the light of spirit, knowledge and life.
Sachiel
The chance of taking over the torch now goes Madhav Thavanish of grade 6 who has also
won the CM level trophy in the district for table tennis in doubles, and he is also a state
participant.
By passing the flame from one person to another in stages, the Torch Relay expresses and
symbolises our achievements.
Sachiel
Thavinish is now seen passing the torch finally to Roshini -grade 12 who is an excellent
badminton player and has also won the cm trophy district level in both singles and doubles.
ashmithaa
The torch relay is meant to be a symbol of hope, peace, unity, friendship and tolerance. The
torch is lit from a basin of fire; and the flame of life shines brightly in our school campus, and
may this light bring peace and harmony and motivate the students participating in the
upcoming events.
Sachiel
