Assignment 3
Assignment 3
1. A sample of 50 students’ exam scores is taken, with an average score of 82. The population
standard deviation is known to be 8. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the true mean
exam score of the population.
2. A factory's machine fills bottles with an average of 500 ml, based on a sample of 100 bottles.
The population standard deviation is known to be 5 ml. Find a 90% confidence interval for
the mean volume filled by the machine.
3. A quality control manager wants to estimate the mean diameter of bearings produced in a
factory. A sample of 70 bearings has a mean diameter of 0.65 cm. The population standard
deviation is known to be 0.05 cm. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the population
mean diameter.
4. A random sample of 80 packages is weighed, with a sample mean weight of 2.1 kg. The
population standard deviation of weights is known to be 0.3 kg. Find a 95% confidence
interval for the true mean weight of packages.
5. Differentiate between Point estimation and Interval estimation?
6. Define Hypothesis and explain the difference between Null and Alternate hypothesis in
details?
7. The mean weight of 200 male students in a college is 60 kilograms with standard deviation of
4 kilograms. test the hypothesis that the mean weight in the population is greater than 58
kilograms. Use 1% level of significance.
8. Average returns in equity mutual funds of company are supposed to be 15% p.a. with a std.
deviation of 2.5%. A sample of 40 investors is randomly selected and their mean return is
found to be 13.3%. Test at 5% level of significance whether there is any significant difference
between the sample mean and population mean? What will be the result if the level of
significance is 1%?
9. Write all steps of the hypothesis Procedure?
10. Write down the formula for the following : Mean, Median, Mode, Standard deviation,
Variance, Range, Correlation, Regression, Normal distribution, Confidence interval,
Hypothesis testing.
