variables and population.
• It should be 12 word limits.
• It should be free of jargons (vague words).

Introduction

• The introduction is headed by the title of the study, not by the word

"introduction".

• The introduction section should address the following:

o The background of the study.

o Statement of the problem.

o The incidence of the problem.

o How this problem area affects individuals & society.

o The significance of the study/rationale.

o About 80% of the references should be up-to-date (last 5 years).

Aim of the study

It should be clear and consistent with the title of the study.

Research Question

It should be clear, ethical and consistent with the aim of the study.

Research Hypothesis
• It is required when using experimental, quasi experimental or
correlational research.

• It is driven from the problem of the study.

• It should contain at least two variables and the population of the


study.

Operational Definitions

• Operational definitions of the concepts and variables (if needed).

• Design

o Type of the design.


o The rationale of selecting this design.
o The design should be appropriate for answering the research
question.

• Setting

o Description of the setting.


o Capacity of the unit/units.
o Nurse-patient ratio in the unit.
o Services provided by the unit/units.

• Sample/Participants

o Population.
o Inclusion/exclusion criteria.
o Sampling size & technique.
o Sample calculation.

• Tools/Instruments

Complete description of data collection tools, covering the following


questions:
o What is the name of the tool (s)?
o Who developed the tool?
o What is the aim of the tool?
o What is the content of the tool?
o How are you going to test the validity & reliability of the tool?
o What is the scoring system of the tool? (if applicable)

• Pilot Study

o A brief description of the pilot study.

• Data Collection
o Complete description of the data collection process including the
procedure/intervention if applicable.

• Data Analysis

o The software that will be used in analyzing the collected data.


o Appropriate statistical tests will be used.

Ethical Considerations

The following information should be covered under this section:

o Ethical approval.
o Informed consent.
▪ The consent form should be attached to the proposal.
o Confidentiality and data protection.
o Protection of vulnerable group if applicable.

• Each citation mentioned in the proposal must be presented in the list


of references.
• All references material must be from peer reviewed journals, books,
etc….
• Use the American Psychological Association (APA) style edition 6 for
referencing.
• The accuracy of journals must be double checked (authors, titles,
dates, page numbers).

Appendices

• Informed consent form.

• Research Ethics Committee approval.

The Format of the Proposal

• Font: Time New Roman, 12-point font.

• Spaces: Double space.

• Margins: 1 inch margins on all sides except for the left side 1.5

inches.

• The text is left justified.

• The beginning of each paragraph indented 5-7 characters (spaces).

• The pages should be numbered consecutively.
