1.2 The 19th term of an arithmetic sequence is 11, while the 31 th term is 5.

1.2.1 Determine the first three terms of the sequence. (5)

1.2.2 Calculate the sum of the first 81 terms of the sequence. (3)

1.3 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 8(𝑥 − 3)2 ; 4(𝑥 − 3)3 ; 2(𝑥 − 3)4 ; … … 𝑥 ≠ 3

1.3.1 Determine the values of 𝑥 for which the sequence will converge. (3)

1.3.2 Calculate the sum to infinity if 𝑥 = 3,5. (3)

QUESTION 2

2.1 The sequence 3 ; 9 ; 17 ; 27.......... are given.

2.1.1 Write down the next two terms. (2)

2.1.2 Determine the general term. (4)

2.1.3 Calculate the value of the first term of the sequence that is greater than 269. (4)

2.2 Three terms are in geometric progression. When 2 is subtracted from the (4)
third term, the three terms form an arithmetic progression. If the first term is
8, determine the 2nd and 3rd terms of the geometric progression if 𝑟 > 1.
