3. Clearly show ALL calculations, diagrams, graphs, et cetera that you have
used in determining your answers.
QUESTION 1
1.2 The 19th term of an arithmetic sequence is 11, while the 31 th term is 5.
1.2.2 Calculate the sum of the first 81 terms of the sequence. (3)
1.3 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 8(𝑥 − 3)2 ; 4(𝑥 − 3)3 ; 2(𝑥 − 3)4 ; … … 𝑥 ≠ 3
1.3.1 Determine the values of 𝑥 for which the sequence will converge. (3)
QUESTION 2
2.1.3 Calculate the value of the first term of the sequence that is greater than 269. (4)
2.2 Three terms are in geometric progression. When 2 is subtracted from the (4)
third term, the three terms form an arithmetic progression. If the first term is
8, determine the 2nd and 3rd terms of the geometric progression if 𝑟 > 1.

QUESTION 4
The poster below was being used to promote the 2010 Fifa World Cup in
Bloemfontein. The arch has a parabolic shape. The highest point of the arch
has coordinates (2 ; 7) and the player’s hand touches the arch at the point
(4 ; 3).
4.2 Restrict the domain of 𝑓 in one specific way so that the inverse of the (1)
parabola will also be a function.
4.3 Write down the coordinates of the turning point of the transformed parabola 𝑔 (2)
if 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥 + 1) − 2.
[7]
QUESTION 5
5.2 Given 𝑓(𝑥) = −2(𝑥 + 4)2 + 3. Determine the co-ordinates of the turning
points of:
QUESTION 6

Given: 𝑔(𝑥) = 2 + 𝑥−4
6.2 Sketch the graph of 𝑔, showing all intercepts with the axes and the (4)
asymptotes on Addendum A, provided.
6.3 If 𝑔 is shifted 2 units down and 1 unit right, write down the new equation for ℎ. (2)
6.5 Determine the equation of ONE axis of symmetry of 𝑔, that has a negative (2)
gradient.
