“Smart Pet Feeder Using Arduino for Automated Feeding”

PURPOSE

The purpose of this project is to design and implement a smart pet feeder using Arduino technology that

ensures consistent, timely, and automated feeding for pets. This system aims to improve pet care by

allowing owners to feed their pets remotely or on a fixed schedule, ensuring their health and well-being

even in the owner’s absence.

Description

The Smart Pet Feeder is an automated feeding system powered by an Arduino microcontroller. It is designed

to dispense a set amount of pet food at scheduled times, with optional features like remote control via a

mobile app, real-time food level monitoring, and voice commands using IoT integration. The system uses

a motor-controlled mechanism to release food from a container into a feeding bowl and may include sensors

to monitor food quantity, feeding time, and pet presence. This innovation helps pet owners manage feeding

schedules efficiently and ensures pets are fed properly even when their owners are busy or away from home.

General Objective

The general objective of this project is to design and develop an efficient, automated, and intelligent pet

feeding system using Arduino that enhances the way pet owners manage their pet’s nutrition. The system

aims to ensure timely and measured food dispensing based on a predefined schedule, minimizing the risk

of overfeeding or underfeeding. Additionally, it seeks to provide convenience to pet owners, especially

those with busy or irregular routines, by automating the feeding process and enabling remote or scheduled

control.

Specific Objectives

• To design and construct a mechanical system that dispenses pet food accurately using servo or

stepper motors.

• To program the Arduino to control feeding schedules based on user-defined times.

• To integrate a real-time clock (RTC) module for precise timing of food dispensing.

• To implement a food level sensor to monitor remaining food in the container.

• To develop a user interface (e.g., LCD screen or mobile app) for easy control and configuration.

• To test and evaluate the system’s performance in terms of timing accuracy, food portion control,

and reliability.

• To ensure the feeder is safe, durable, and pet-friendly in design.
