• What is Multifactor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication is a layered approach to secure identities where a user is required to present
additional verification information in addition to their username and password before access to resources is
granted.

• What is the recommended Multifactor Authentication Method ?

In Safaricom Ethiopia, the recommended and Default Multifactor Authentication Method is Microsoft
Authenticator. Please go through the enrollment process and set it as the default authentication method to
avoid being locked out of critical systems.

• When is the deadline for enrolling for Multifactor Authentication?

Users are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible. Implementation on systems such as VPN and Privileged
Access Management system has already started.

1. Access the enrollment link MFA Enrollment Link on your computer.
2. A login page opens requesting for login details. Enter your account details as
[email protected] where xxx.yyy is your username and then click Next. Enter the correct
password and click Sign in

3. After successful verification of username and password, you will receive the prompt “More Information
required”. Click Next
4. The browser redirects to a page for setting up Multifactor Authentication. Select the correct Country Code
and then enter your phone number and select either “Receive a code” to get SMS OTP or “Call me” for
phone call verification option. Click Next

5. If you selected “Receive a code”, a text message with a 6-digit code will be sent to your number. Enter
the code and click Next
6. If you selected “Call me” option, you will receive a call from +1 (855) 330-8653. Answer the call and input #

7. On successful verification, the prompts below are displayed depending on the verification method you
chose in the previous step.
8. Click Next to continue with the enrollment process.

9. A successfully enrollment confirmation page is displayed with the default Sign in as Phone.
Please proceed with the next slides to activate the Microsoft Authenticator app and set it as the Default
authentication method (Recommended for Safaricom Ethiopia)

10. Click on Security Info and Select Add Sign-in Method.
11. On the Pop up that appears, select Authenticator App and click Add

NB: Before proceeding with the next steps, confirm you have downloaded and Installed Microsoft
Authenticator App from App Store for IOS users and Google Playstore for Android users.

12. If compliant with above prerequisite, click Next to continue with the enrollment process.
13. On the second prompt click Next. A page with QR code opens

14. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. If prompted, you must allow the app to
send you notifications.

15. While in the app, select + (found on the Top right side of app) and choose Work or school account. On the
next prompt, Select Scan a QR Code

16. After the QR code is successfully validated, A notification is sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your
mobile device, to test authentication using the app.
17. Enter the number displayed on your computer into the app and select Yes.

18. Your account information is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app. Click Next to finish the
process
19. To set Microsoft Authenticator as the default additional verification method, Click Security Info and under
Default Sign-in method, Select Change.
20. On the drop down that appears, select Microsoft Authenticator – notification and click Confirm

21. Your account information is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app as the Default sign-in method
for Second Factor Verification.

NB: In addition to username and password, you will need to Approve Multifactor Notifications for all future
logins
