RATIONALE/BACKGROUND

In Grade 1, focusing on ENDURES strategies is vital for laying a strong


foundation in numeracy skills. By Enhancing Number Sense, students develop a
deep understanding of numbers and their relationships. Through Data Analysis, they
learn to interpret and draw conclusions from information presented in various forms.
Understanding Patterns enables students to recognize and apply mathematical
patterns in different contexts, fostering a deeper comprehension of numerical
concepts. Reasoning with Numbers encourages critical thinking as students solve
problems and make logical connections between numerical information. Exploring
Mathematical Relationships allows students to investigate how numbers interact
with one another, promoting a holistic understanding of mathematics. Lastly,
students Strategize by employing problem-solving techniques and selecting
appropriate methods to tackle mathematical challenges effectively. By integrating
these strategies into Grade 1 curriculum, educators provide students with a solid
framework for building numeracy skills and preparing them for future mathematical
learning. However, pupils perceive mathematical calculation with numeracy abilities
in the MATH curriculum as difficult and challenging. In the training for Numeracy
Mastery: Building a Strong Foundation in Key Stage 1, teachers will be equipped
and trained to instruct and engage students through interactive learning activities.
The facilitator offers more engaging tactics, exciting games, and interactive
technology-based activities that are specific for the expectations . Project
ENDURES is design and created to address the needs of the learners.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION, METHODS, AND DESIGN

The project focuses on implementing and assessing the impact of ENDURES


strategies in enhancing numeracy skills among Grade 1 students. ENDURES, an
acronym for Enhancing Number Sense, Data Analysis, Understanding Patterns,
Reasoning with Numbers, Exploring Mathematical Relationships, and Strategizing,
represents a comprehensive approach to math education. The methods involve
collaborating with educators to integrate ENDURES strategies into the Grade 1
math curriculum, providing teacher training, and implementing the curriculum in
classrooms. Pre- and post-assessments will be used to measure changes in
students' numeracy skills, while qualitative data from teacher interviews, classroom
observations, and student feedback will provide insights into the implementation
process and the strategies' effectiveness. The project follows a mixed-methods
design, emphasizing collaboration between researchers, educators, and students to
ensure successful implementation and evaluation of ENDURES strategies tailored
to meet the needs of Grade 1 learners.
