Step 1:

The intermediary device categories are Routers, Switches, Hubs, Wireless Devices, Security, WAN
Emulation

There are 15 endpoint devices

There are 11 Intermediary Devices

There are 8 End devices that are not desktop computers

There are 4 different types of media connections used in the network topology. Copper Straight-
Through, Coaxial, Wireless, and Serial DTE

Step 2:

a. With the client-server model, the clients request and receive services from the server.
Essentially the server can provide network services for the client.
b. One function of intermediary devices is that they regenerate and transmit data signals, and
another function is they direct data through alternate paths when a link fails.
c. One criterion for choosing a network media type is the cost and installation of the media, and
another criterion is the distance it can carry a signal.

Step 3:

a. A LAN is a network infrastructure that spans a small geographic area, while WAN is a network
infrastructure that spans a large geographical area. An example of where a LAN would be used is
at home, a school, a office building, or campus. An example of where a WAN would be used is
between cities, states, provinces, countries, or continents. LAN’s are usually administered by
one organization or person, while WAN’s are administered by multiple service providers.
b. I see 2 WANs. The Internet and the Intranet.
c. I see 3 LANs. The Home Office, The Central, and The Branch.
d. The internet is a worldwide collection of interconnected networks
e. Some ways a home user connects to the internet are through DSL, Cable, Cellular, Satellite, and
Dial-Up Telephone.
f. Some common methods that businesses use to connect to the internet in my area are through
Dedicated Leased Lines, Metro Ethernet, Business DSL, or Satellite.
