Time : 3 hrs.
Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far
as practicable.
The figures in the margin indicate full marks.
Attempt all the questions.
1. a) Define differentiability of a function at a point. If 7

differentiability of f(x) at x = 2.
b) State and prove Lagrange's mean value theorem. 8
OR
State Leibnitz's theorem for successive derivative of the product of
two functions y = uv. If y = sin–1x prove that,
i. (1 – x2) y2 – xy1 = 0.
ii. (1 – x2) yn+2 − (2n + 1) xyn+1 – n2yn = 0.

b) Define the asymptotes of the curve. Find the asymptotes of the curve: 8
x3 − 2y3 + 2x2y − xy2 + xy − y2 + 1 = 0.
OR
A square piece of tin of sides 18cm is to be made into a box without
lid, cutting a square from each corner and folding up the flaps to
form the box. In order to make the volume of the box maximum,
what should be the sides of the square to be cut off?
