Layers are like stacked, transparent sheets of glass on which you can paint images.
Layers as transparent panes of glass stacked on top of one another, which allow different parts of
each layer to show through.

Text Tool
T → This tool allows text to be typed onto the current layer using the Primary color. The Text
Controls in the Tool Bar can be used to change the font, the size of the font, formatting, text
rendering mode, justification, antialiasing and blend mode.
• Type: Click or draw a box and type the text
• Select: Double Click on T of layer and select the text
• Format: Font, size, color
Free Transform Tool
The Free Transform tool in Adobe Photoshop allows users to
manipulate images, shapes, and paths by rotating, scaling,
skewing, distorting, and more.
How to use the Free Transform tool
1. Select a layer or create a new selection
2. Select Edit from the menu bar
3. Select Free Transform
4. A bounding box will appear around the selection
5. Use the bounding box handles to transform the selection

• Windows: Press Alt + Ctrl + T
• Mac: Press Option + Command + T

1. Create New Project
Name: Activity 1 - Yourname
DPI: 100
Canvas size: Width - 6, Height - 4 inches
2. Background – Fill (Gradient)
3. Insert – 4 different fruits (Copy and Flip)
(IT channel → file → Photoshop → Activity 1 (Fruits))

Selection Tools

Photoshop has several selection tools, including the Quick Selection tool, Lasso tool, Marquee
tools, and more.
Quick Selection tool
• Quickly selects a section of an image
Lasso tool
• Creates selections using a variety of techniques
Polygonal Lasso tool:
o Creates selections using straight lines, such as zig-zagged selections
Magnetic Lasso tool:
o Automatically snaps to the edges of objects as you draw
Marquee tools:
o Selects an area of an image in a specific shape
o Elliptical Marquee tool
o Similar to the rectangular marquee tool, but with an elliptical shape
Object Selection tool:
o Selects one object or part of an object within an image
Magic Wand:
o Isolates specific colors, highlights, and shadows

Custom Shape

Custom shapes in Photoshop are shapes that you can create or import into your images. You can
use the Custom Shape tool to add shapes like hearts, flowers, and music notes to your photos.
How to use the Custom Shape tool
1. Select the Custom Shape tool from the toolbar
2. Choose a shape from the Custom Shape picker
3. Click and drag within your image to draw the shape
Rasterize Layer
Rasterizing in Photoshop converts vector layers into pixel-based images. This can be useful for
editing shapes, text, and layer masks.
How to rasterize in Photoshop
1. Select the layer you want to rasterize
2. Right-click on the layer
3. Select Rasterize Layer
Clipping Mask
A clipping mask in Photoshop is a way to limit the effect of a layer to a specific area of an
image. This is useful for making image composites, removing objects, or changing background
colors.
How to create a clipping mask
1. Select the layer above the shape you want to clip
2. Right-click on the layer

Make a clipping mask on text layer. (***Text layer must be above the shape layer)

Text Wrapping
• Ctrl + click on layer thumbnail of shape layer
• Select --> Inverse selection
• Select the Text layer and right click "Rasterize"
• Press delete key on text layer
• Hide the shape layer
