SINGLE PHASE Uncontrolled Halfwave RECTIFIER CIRCUITS

1. A load impedance Z= 10+j 5.7735 ohms is connected to a single phase

230 V 50 Hz ac source via a diode. (a) write the expression for the load
current; (b) draw the output voltage wave forms;(c) find the mean output
voltage; d) find the RMS output voltage

Z= 10+j 5.7735, Vrms = 230V, F = 50hz,

Z (Polar form) = 11.56<30, Vm = 230 x sqrt(2) = 325.26 Volts

Im = Vm / Z = 28.17 A

io(t) = Vm/Z sin(wt + θ) + Vm/Z sin(θ)e-t/τ

io(t) = 28.17sin(wt – 30) + 28.17 x sin(30) e-Rt/L

Vo (mean) = Vm / 2Π (1 + cosθ) = 325.26/2Π (1+ cos30) = 96.60 Volts

Vo (rms) = sqrt (Vm2/4 Π (Π + θ – sin(2θ)/2 ))
=sqrt( 325.262/4 Π (Π + 30 – sin(2X30)/2 )) = 165.47 Volts
2. A load impedance Z= 6+j 1 ohms is connected to a single phase 250 V
50 Hz ac source via a diode. (a) write the expression for the load current;
(b) draw the output voltage wave forms;(c) find the mean output voltage;
d) find the RMS output voltage.

Vo(mean)= 111.77 Volts

Vo(rms)= 176 Volts

3. A load impedance Z= 10 ohms is connected to a single phase 230 V 50

Hz ac source via a diode. (a) write the expression for the load current; (b)
draw the output voltage wave forms;(c) find the mean output voltage; d)
find the RMS output voltage
Vm = 230 * (2)^0.5 = 325.26 Volts
Z = 10 Ω, Im = V/Z = 32.526 A
Vo(mean) = Vm / Π = 325.26 / 3.142 = 103.53 Volts
Vo (RMS) = Vm /2 = 162.63 Volts
io(t) = 32.526 sin(wt)

4. A load impedance Z= 10+j 10 ohms is connected to a single phase 240 V

50 Hz ac source via a diode & a freewheeling diode across the load. (a)

wave forms; (c) find the mean output voltage; (d) find the instantaneous
value of output current at the end of the first positive half cycle; (e) find
the instantaneous value of the output current at the end of the first cycle

Z (Polar form) = 14.14<45, Vm = 240 x sqrt(2) = 339.4 Volts

Im = Vm / Z = 24 A

io(t) = Vm/Z sin(wt + θ) + Vm/Z sin(θ)e-t/τ

io(t) = 24sin(wt – 45) + 24 x sin(45) e-Rt/L

Vo (mean) = Vm / Π = 108.034 Volts

Vo (rms) = Vm / 2 = 169.7 V

io(2Π) = io(Π) e-RΠ/L = 0 A
