Prerequisites: Electrical Machines-I and Electrical Machines-II

Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, the student will be able to
CO1: Derive Kron's primitive machine model of rotating electrical machines (L3)
CO2: Understand various reference frames used and its application to different AC electrical
machines (L2, L3)
CO3: Derive the mathematical model of DC generators (L3)
CO4: Derive the mathematical model of DC motors (L3)
CO5: Derive dynamic equivalent circuit model of a three phase induction machine (L2)

UNIT-I: FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF MODELLING 10 Lectures

Basic two-pole DC Machine representation-Commutators machines-DC shunt machines, 3-Phase


synchronous machine with and without damper bars, 3-phase induction machine, Kron's primitive
machine- voltage, current and Torque equations.
Learning Outcome:

1. Derive two-pole DC Machines representation from Kron’s primitive. (L3)


2. Derive Voltage, current and torque equations of Kron’s primitive machine for AC machines (L3)
3. Understand modeling concepts of DC and AC machines(L2)

UNIT-II: LINEAR TRANSFORMATION IN MACHINES 10 Lectures

Introduction, Linear Transformation-Phase transformation –Transformation from Three phase to two


phase (a,b,c to α,β,0).Transformation from rotating axes (α,β,0) to stationary axes (d,q,0).Physical
concept of Park’s transformations , Power invariance.

Learning Outcome:
1. Understand various reference frames used for electric machine modeling (L2)
2. Transform the machine variable from one reference frame to other reference frames
(L2)
3. Understand power invariance in modeling of electrical machines (L2)

UNIT-III: MODELING OF DC GENERATORS

Mathematical model of separately excited D.C generators – Steady State Analysis-Transient State
Analysis-Transfer function of separately excited D.C generators-no load and on load operations.
Sudden short circuit for a separately excited generator. DC shunt generator on no load. DC shunt
generator on Load.

UNIT-IV: MODELING OF DC MOTORS 10 Lectures

Mathematical model of separately excited D.C motor – Steady State Analysis-Transient State
Analysis-Transfer function of separately excited D.C Motor- Mathematical model of a D.C Series
motor, DC Shunt motor.

Learning Outcome:
1. Derive the mathematical model of separately excited DC motor in steady-state and transient
modes (L3)
2. Develop transfer function of a separately excited DC motor (L4)
3. Derive mathematical model of a DC series and motor (L3)

UNIT-V: MODELING OF THREE PHASE INDUCTION MACHINE 10 Lectures

Dynamic d-q model, axes transformation, Generalized model in arbitrary reference frame-
Electromagnetic Torque-Derivation of commonly used Induction machine models- Stator reference frame
model-Rotor reference frame model-Synchronously rotating reference frame model

Learning Outcome:

1. Derive the torque equation of three phase induction machine (L3)


2. Derive commonly used induction machine models (L3)
3. Derive machine model in stator, rotor and Synchronously rotating reference frame model(L3)
